I went to a hotel with my husband and chose a room with a double bed for extra space. The room was big enough and the shower was good, but the toilet did not flush properly, so we had to use the toilet in the reception area. We filled our water bottles from the shower and used the extra water to flush the toilet. It was a pain for a week! The hotel staff did not speak English, so we found it easier to figure things out on our own rather than using a translator. The housekeeping was good, they changed the sheets every day and the room smelled fresh and clean. They left different items in the room every day, such as shampoo or conditioner, and provided new towels daily. The pool area was nice with a big pool and two cold jacuzzi tubs. The pool staff was friendly and attentive, despite their limited English. However, the cocktails served at the pool were not great, so it's better to bring your own drinks. The reception staff barely spoke any English, but the bellboys were really friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was not great, but the breakfast servers were the worst. One of them yelled at me in Spanish when I tried to toast my croissant. I found it hard to communicate with them as they did not speak any English, but I guess that's not their fault. Overall, the hotel was okay, but I don't think it was worth the money. However, I would consider staying there again purely for the pool. I paid $180 ,there were slots and so many different kind of birds;it was great!

Overall, the hotel exceeded my expectations. The facilities and amenities are excellent, although there are some minor maintenance issues in the rooms. However, on the whole, the experience was positive. The beds are comfortable and well-kept. The main pool is particularly impressive, and the restaurants, gym, and beach club are all of high quality.

I liked that it was a refuge for birds and the property had nice landscaping areas. What I didn't like was was informed breakfast was till 11, but they took all the good by 10:50. Leaving the late birds with limited food. Another dislike is that the pool and Jacuzzi was closed after 8. Felt like the adults didn't have enough time.

Beautiful but crowded
Hotel Caribe is a splendid, historic building but the grounds are somewhat crowded with newer blocks of rooms. The pool and restaurant felt crowded most of the time. Beautiful wildlife in the gardens including very tame exotic birds. Located a 15 minute drive from historic city centre where many beautiful buildings and restaurants.

It took three tries to get the type of room I reserved. In my first room, I didn't have the ocean view that I had reserved. It also had a refrigerator that wasn't working. And when I opened the refrigerator, a roach ran out.

Not a radisson group hotel as advertised, nor 5*
This hotel is beautiful overall and gave a lovely resort feel. However, as an international tourist, I found so much inconsistency in the service and availability of staff. Firstly, nobody, and I mean nobody, speaks english and so we struggled to communicate with the limited spanish we had. It made us feel as though we were not the demographic that they wanted at the hotel as usually there are at least one or two bilingual employees hired to attract international tourists. Some staff at the pool area & breakfast were very cold towards us and I'm not sure the reason. There was such slow service regardless of business or time of day, inconsistencies on what was offered at breakfast depending on where you decided to sit, sometimes service in certain areas, sometimes not and not rhyme or reason to it. They say they are a Radisson group hotel on all of their branding, online, in the hotel itself, but then when you ask if they are they say no, that they are a choice group hotel. So there is no general standard or service expectation met and to be honest I'm surprised that this has met the standard of being called a 5 * hotel. Both for standard of the hotel physically, both mostly for standard of service and offerings. The 'private beach' is also not actually by the sea but rather a section of the sand cut off from the sea. The actual beach is not a nice place to go and was more of a stressful experience than relaxing with so many agressive vendors.

In fact, a few years ago we were part of the Raddisson chain and it was acquired by the CHOICE hotel chain. Every time I come to Cartagena I stay here, the hotel is clean, it has huge green areas, it has cute animal walking around, it’s such a stress free environment, the food is amazing and fresh, the crew is so nice and always smiling ready to help you! It’s a lot better than staying in a tall building hotel, I loved it

Staff overall friendly, but some real slow. Do not upgrade to beach view. Not a full beach view. Garden / pool nicely kept… relaxing. Beach is public. If you don’t mind local vendors then you’ll be okay. If not stay at hotel pool or go to other beaches.

Beautiful and modern 5-star hotel experience!
Beautiful 5-star hotel, clean rooms and facilities, attentive and friendly staff! Appreciated the well-manicured grounds and animals. The breakfast in the morning was delicious with many varied options for everyone's taste! The pool was large and refreshing! The room was clean, spacious, and modern with air conditioning, electric plugs, and cable tv. 10 out of 10, highly recommended!

Easy check in, but room had no towels. Asked 3 times and finally just took some from a hallway closet. The grounds of the hotel is 5 stars. The room was barely 2 stars (and that’s being generous). Old, stained and dingy furniture. Horribly hard mattress. Construction on the floor beneath ours w/hammering & sawing was so loud, it vibrated the bed and walls (I have a recording). They redid the floors of our building and caused room to fill with a pungent chemical paint thinner smell. I called the front desk and they said they’d look into it, but never followed up. We went on an excursion one day, and when we returned, construction men had been allowed into our room to replace the headboard. I feel like that’s something that should’ve been mentioned to us before leaving that day. We would’ve hidden any valuables, especially because we couldn’t get our safe to work. One of the men working on our headboard must’ve used our restroom and unfortunately urinated around the toilet..which I stepped in:(. The breakfast was decent, but the pool side service was hit or miss. Also, I would go down to the pool early, & all the sun beds would be “claimed” with personal items thrown across them, yet no one would show up for hour upon hours to actually use them. Signs say that items can’t be used to “save” the bed, yet I never saw a single employee remove unattended items to allow the beds to be used by people who were actually at pool. Would not stay here again.

My family and I booked two rooms from 12/20-12/25. A total of 9 guests. We were assigned rooms 105,106. Rooms are falsely advertised in Expedia through photographs. What is shown does not display the filth and lack of up to date maintenance a hotel should maintain. While I understand that this was one of the first hotels in Cartagena, conserving history/structure and maintaining a property up to date are two different things. To start off, room 106 was extremely hot and the AC wouldn’t work no matter how the thermostat was adjusted. I did bring it up to housekeeping but there was never a solution. In comparison to room 105, the temperature was perfect. I had to constantly go over to my sisters room in 105 to cool off because the heat was too much for my family and I. Not only did the shower look absolutely disgusting with how outdated it was, it was simply very uncomfortable (not a practical layout) difficult sink and shower handles (often times they wouldn’t close), mold, dirtiness, and to top it off, our water would go cold often times during showers. This was brought up to Ms. Gomez at the reception desk who then handed the situation to guest relations. Although staff and housekeeping members were very courteous to us during our stay, it does not take away from matters that need attention at this resort. Had we not been there for a wedding, dealing with different activities on a daily, we would have asked for a refund on the first day to leave elsewhere.
