Just wow

The harbour and marina at Hoonah, Alaska. We were there on a day with the temperature in the 80's. Difficult to believe that just round the corner is Glacier Bay!

A street scene in Hoonah. Hoonah is a city on Chichagof Island (5th largest island in the USA) with a community of the Tlingit people. It has a remote, small town feel as it would with a population of around 750 which swells in summer to 1300 or so. There is a lot of native art, wood carving, painting etc. and the economy is based on fishing, boating, hiking and hunting.

Beautiful location

Staying at the park is amazing. The staff were all great. They were all friendly and helpful. You just can't get over though the actual location. It's so beautiful.

Formerly the home of the Hoonah Packing Company, now the cruise ship port for the city of Hoonah about a mile away. The indigenous people here are of the Tlingit tribe. The place is home now to local art & craft shops all owned by local people and catering to tourists who mainly come off cruise ships.
