โAbsolutely loved our stay at 40 Winks, the room was so beautiful with a gorgeous view of the Cathedral. It felt romantic, relaxing and special. Only a 5-10 minute walk to get to the main attractions and lots of food options. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful, I would absolutely recommend this property to anyone staying in Durham. โ
โA converted old building of council offices to a hotel. Stained glass windows, parquet flooring, wide corridors and nice bedrooms. Big ensuite and comfortable bed. โ
โNice upscale hotel with large rooms. Good work desk and internet. Breakfast had lots of choices, both hot and cold. Nice location along canal, with a reasonable (if uphill) walk into town, towards the cathedral. Getting to the hotel by foot from the station more challenging due to the hill nature of town, and construction blocking various access ways.โ
โOn entering the property we was greeted by the reception staff they were very friendly and helpful, they made our short stay feel at ease, had everything we needed and the owner was so polite even carried my bag upstairs and said anything we need just ask. Really canโt fault our room was lovely felt homely & cosy, the area was nice & quiet. Highly recommend this place. We had the family room as it was the last one left for us to book & was a great size room. 10/10 โ
โThis was a very nice comfortable place. We had a little trouble finding it. Was easy to check in and out of. The only suggestion I would make was to put the exterior patio lights on a timer so that they turn off at nightโ if itโs hot and you have the window open then you have all the light from the patio. But it was very clean and comfortable.โ
โThe staff made our experience fabulous. Everyone we met was helpful, friendly and accommodating. I am disabled and needed to use a mobility scooter to get around, nothing was too much bother. The first room was difficult to access for me, we informed reception and were seamlessly and quickly moved to another room. โI have stayed here many times and the property and staff are excellent. In room facilities are what you need and no frills, food including breakfast in the restaurant is fresh and tasty and the free extensive car park is really useful. I thoroughly recommend this hotel. โ
โStaying in the castle was an amazing experience. For those that expect modern facilities, please keep in mind that this is a very old castle that has been retrofitted.
