"Booked a deluxe single room and it was a substandard double. Not everyone would be happy with a double bed when booked single. Instructions were to message if arriving after 4pm. I didn't know an exact arrival time, however they asked for my mobile and time again, so could provide self checkin, so gave estimated arrival and mobile, then they didn't respond. On arrival it says ring both bells but nobody came for few minutes then sounded impatient as expected me to just walk in! Had to pre-book breakfast for both days at start. Told breakfast 8-9am, but still being set out at 8.15 on first day. Was not told how it worked so just had to work it out. Terrible hosting. Scrambled eggs had brown flecks through it day 1 and was more like fried beaten up eggs on day 2 with dark brown base. Both days was only luke warm. On day 2 cooked food arrived before I'd hardly started my cereal. I wasn't happy with my room either, very dusty, orange pips on the floor, a half drunk bottle bottle of drink in the bottle cooler, out of date UHT milk, no biscuits as shown in the photos, no mirror in the bathroom just fittings for one, shower head didn't fit in the holder properly and fell on me twice, shower temperature control did not work so too hot, (I tried turning it both ways!), extension socket from an extension sockets (how did that pass safety check?), one window had no closure and not a decent lock on door so concerned for my safety especially as all single glazed. Room scruffy "

"Staff not attentive and don’t ask how stay was or if any issues. Windows were had condensation on, and thin with outdoor noise. Pillows were flatter than tarmac and no extra pillows in wardrobe. Shower drenched floor and seeped through to hallway."

"Lovely selection at breakfast cooked, continental & cereals & fruit yogurts. What let it down is ive been charged in error £149.60 which i was assured would NOT be taken. However it was. Im still chasing for a refund."

"The room was really dark and I didn't like the open plan layout with the toilet in the bedroom (no privacy). The room décor was tired and the jacuzzi didn't work. Only 5 hangers which the staff quickly remedied. Lovely long decking area but it hadn't been cleaned and had no decking furniture so you couldn't sit outside. The staff were absolutely super though and the food was amazing. We ate in the Thai restaurant one evening which was great. Also the Oak Restaurant and again the food was super - and we had a really great breakfast each day. The whole place is fantastically unique, quirky and beautiful when all lit up at night. The farm shop 2 mins walk up the road is a must - it was fabulous and again the staff were absolutely super, friendly and very helpful. Oh and the bed and pillows were fantastically comfortable so we slept really well - just what you need when away for a country break!"

"The room was clean and a good size but the carpet needed renewing as it was in bad condition.The bed linen and towels were excellent and the twin beds were comfortable. Our room and our friends room were "shabby".Paint work etc. I complained about the fact that the bath water went cold before I had run very much.There was no soap to use in the bath.Only soap available was fixed to the shower wall and by the washbasin. I was woken up at 5.35am on the morning we were leaving with a text message from the hotel giving a link for the bill to be paid. Following my complaints I was given a small refund. The hotel needs money spending on it to bring it up to a good standard. Our dinner on Thursday night was good - no complaints about the food and the staff were all lovely and couldn't have been more helpful. Sadly Abbingdon was disappointing as there were quite a few closed shops and the remaining ones were not selling "quality" goods. Too many coffee shops ! "

"Superb hotel, staff very friendly and the room was spacious. Excellent shower too. Really good choices for breakfast, all freshly cooked and included in the price. "
