Staff were so friendly and helpful. Castle grounds were nice. Castle itself was nice as well. There is currently scaffolding covering one side. There was a wedding there so we couldn't go into the library cuz it was reserved for them.

My husband wanted to sleep in a castle, well he did! Given the age (over 800 years), it is well maintained. The castle itself and the grounds are just beautiful. Very friendly and helpful staff. Things to keep in mind: - it's about 35 minutes from downtown Edinburgh, you can Uber to get to the hotel but have to take a taxi (which cost more) to leave the hotel. - the toilets don't have a very strong flush (lol). - wifi is not good, so make sure you have a good roaming plan; download some movies to watch in the evenings. OR for those that drink, there is a lovely bar and a beautiful library for the book lovers. - I enjoyed their meals but the portions are small. If you want to experience sleeping in a castle, I highly recommend Dalhousie! It was a lovely stay.

Beautiful, but definitely not accessible. Not a problem for us, thankfully, and we had a wondeful time (and got a good workout going up and down all those stairs)

Disappointing Overall Experience

The castle is a stunning building from the outside. Once inside, however, you are in a very tired environment. The hotel is in desperate need of some investment/renovation. The food was delicious and elegantly presented. Some of the service was first class while the majority was sub-par. No value for money.

We loved our stay at the castle. Especially loved eating dinner in the Orangery. The food was exceptional. While it wasn't a problem for our group we did watch a disabled woman try to go up the stairs because there was no elevator. Maybe there should be something in the listing so accommodations could be made to put those needing it on the first floor.

The castle was beautifully restored. I could have spent my entire trip sitting in the Library and the Sir Alexander room. The Dungeon dinner was a wonderful and delicious experience. We were glad breakfast was included in our stay as we found the pricing excessive for breakfast and lunch in The Oragery. Climbing 102 stairs to our rooms was a bit much for my 73year old mother, we were glad for the seats on the landings.

A Fairy Tale Castle

My sisters stayed here last year, and highly recommended it. We were not disappointed. The castle is beautiful. Even though it has been converted into a luxury hotel, it still feels like a castle, which is what we were looking for. We booked one night in a four poster room, and one in the Honeymoon Suite, but upon check in, discovered they had upgraded our accommodations to the Honeymoon Suite for both nights as an Anniversary gesture. Staff was amazing. Breakfast was delicious. Lovely stay!

The location is far above average. We had a small tower room with a beautiful view of the countryside. We then decided to dine there in the evening. The food was wonderful and the service was very charming. Breakfast in the winter garden was good but average. The service was also not really appropriate for the place and rather careless. Maybe it was not the best day for waitress.

This is the real castle deal! We were thrilled be allocated room 4 in the large turret of the castle. A red four postered bed themed room with all the glory of days gone by. The bathroom was located down a narrow hallway near the door to the room and that made for some fun too! It felt really special! The ghost of Lady Catherine sadly didn't visit us and we slept like babies. Dinner in the dungeon was sensational and drinks before and after in the lounge rounded off the night. Brekkie was fab and the staff were super helpful from go to woah! Now that's a castle stay!

Faulty Towers meets Tudor Scotland.Great place but

Very mixed feelings with this hotel. There is no question the hotel & surroundings are fantastic. The room was nice & roomy albeit we upgraded to a four poster room. The whole place had a lovely feel about it & I slept the best for a long time. The fine dining meal was lovely, albeit expensive & a few tweaks needed I think. The restaurant staff go a little too far with their ‘Amazing’s’ & ‘Fantastics’, probably more suited for the Americans. The Spa is very nice & worth a visit. Unfortunately, the running of the Orangery restaurant was diabolical. The Manageress & staff couldn’t cope with just a handful of tables & worked too slow, resulting in long waits in narrow corridors at breakfast. Too few & too inexperienced staff. Food quality was ok but not great. Choice was ok. Get rid of those silly serving stations & use pull back lids or serve at the table. You need to make the most of the veranda area, get some proper seating & parasols on there. The bar staff & some reception staff were not clued up about choices, menus & timings & quite often got things wrong. Unfortunately we felt like we were in Faulty Towers much of the time, which although amusing much of the time, became a little waring! This place could be so much more. I feel for you, but when a client is paying good money for a nice visit you need to step it up. I’d stay again but I really hope you’ve got the right people in the right jobs next time. Be aware taxis can be expensive & a long wait.
