The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, known commonly as the Egyptian Museum or Museum of Cairo, in Cairo, Egypt, is home to an extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities. It has 120,000 items. Be sure to see.
What a dream come true to see all the wonderful antiquities in this museum! While there were so many great things, the King Tut section was amazing by far! Only downside is we went the day before the 2013 revolution and had to leave early!
I put this photo in to remind people going to Cairo that you must not miss this place with so many antiquities. And you can get up close and personal with them, including Tut's mask. I think it's worth hiring a tour guide who can explain the history and the stories around when the museum nearly got ransacked a few years ago. The guides, mostly casual workers, stood arm-in-arm to defy the looters. It still brings a lump to my throat. #museums

Try to go as early as possible because the museum is huge. Literally it can take you a whole day to see everything. In fact if you go choose to do two days. Wear comfortable walking shoes...

Our personal guide, Mahmoud Emam, had a plethora of information. But it was his passion of his Egyptian history that was so impressive. We so appreciated our this tour and recommend it and hope you’re lucky enough to get Mahmoud.

Parking was available in the adjacent parking lot which made access easier. We visited after the pyramids at Giza and while there were lots of visitors it was still easy to find our way through. Museum is poorly curated and poorly lit. Many items have been removed to the new museum and hopefully will be better displayed. It felt like a time warp and old museum with lots and lots of treasures but more of a warehouse feel.

Give yourself plenty of time to explore this amazing museum! I absolutely loved strolling through ancient history and learning more about the pharaohs. Don't miss the mummy museum!
