Onsen is good, food is excellent, service is perfect! We were taking a taxi from Gero JR station to the hotel, Yamagataya, the driver gave us a free ride, great service!
Overall comfortable stay. Food was good. Only complaint was not enough towels. We were told to bring the towel from the room to onsen but there was only one towel.
This is a great onsen experience. Great service and friendly staff. The baths are good and clean, and the kaiseki food is fantastic. Building is a bit old, but the traditional rooms were comfortable and atmospheric. Would go again!
The staff speak English or Mandarin hence communication was a breeze for me. They were very friendly, helpful and polite. The location of the ryokan is within walking distance to the town and close to the train station. Hotel provides a bus shuttle to the train station. From the train station to the hotel, there is also a complimentary ride. I had a very pleasant stay at the ryokan and highly recommend it.
Typical ryokan onsen resort. Food was excellent. But the bed was very uncomfortable and the exit from the room bathroom was a definite potential fall hazard
The place is old and not very well maintained (the bug net at the window has holes and it is not air tight on the edge, the cleanliness is at passing grade but would really like to have a better room at this rate), they say can host 5 in the room we booked, but we only have 3 and feel very squeezed... Lucky we only stay for a night of sleep and did not suffer to much... Definitely not recommended
