Amazing place. The atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing, surrounded by beautiful nature, which made it the perfect getaway from the busy city.
The rooms were very clean, comfortable, and traditional, which made the stay feel authentic and special. The onsen was one of the highlights — very clean, relaxing, and not too crowded. It was the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring Hakone.
Would stay again. Staff were very kind to us despite being English-speaking tourists, lovely view of the valley, and strong Japanese vibes throughout the property. Price was right too. Only off putting part was the interesting walk from the train station.
We absolutely loved our stay at Hakone Suisen. The location is fantastic — peaceful, beautiful, and perfectly placed for exploring Hakone.
The atmosphere feels truly magical and relaxing from the moment you arrive. The staff were so welcoming and kind, which made the experience even more special.
Our room was beautiful, comfortable, and very well kept. We felt completely at ease the entire time.
This was one of the highlights of our trip and we would happily stay again. Highly recommend!
Absolutely loved my stay here - quiet and serene with beautiful mountain views. The onsens were incredible and often empty because of how small the hotel is. Great service and facilities!
Clean, quiet, beautiful property in the mountains. It’s more of a spa-hotel, So not super convenient for us (we needed a place to sleep and a shower). Did not relize that our room had as bathroom but no shower, but the staff was super helpful and offered a room for a moderate fee, Would. Inlikwses
This hotel was a very nice place to stay. It was very calm and clean and the stuff was very friendly. It was also very affordable for a beautiful room.
Ryokan was very unique for a first timer like me. Staff were very polite and helpful, and could speak good English which was a big help! Would definitely recommend to anyone staying in a Ryokan for the first time.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
The hotel was very clean and tidy, slippers were provided upon entry into lobby so no outside shoes throughout the hotel. The hotel staff were super friendly and helpful, providing all information about the amenities during check-in. They also provided a flashlight when I went out at night, which I thought was a very nice personal touch.
If you want something boutique and intimate away from the usual Hakone tourist crowds, this is the place! The staff was so nice and helpful. The room was clean and spacious with amazing views. While there was no shower in our room, we basically had the small onsen areas to ourselves (men & women separate but fully nude only) or only a few other people. It's peaceful and has a homey feel with unique decor touches that we loved. From the bookshelves and records in the chill lounge area to in-room tea set with tasty green tea, it's a perfect place if you don't want the usual "formal hotel" vibe.
If you're looking to get away to quiet serenity then this is a lovely place. It is removed from easy access to activities in the area, other than the outdoor sculpture park, which is EXTREMELY worth a visit, but it was a beautiful location to spend a peaceful break in the midst of the big cities on our itinerary.
We stayed here as a family of 4 in March 2026. We stayed in a Japanese style room. The room has a toilet and sink but no shower. There are both indoor and outdoor baths however which we enjoyed! The indoor bath change area is a bit small if there are several people using it at the same time. The outdoor bath is lovely and quiet but with no shower area to shampoo/soap up so you need to go down the stairs to the indoor area to do this. Both outdoor and indoor baths are separated by gender. The Japanese style rooms were very clean and there are instructions available to assist you in setting up the beds for sleeping.
A couple of tips: The road from the station to Hakone Suisen is a short walk but it can be very busy with traffic and there is no designated cross walk. Crossing the road during mid day with luggage and children can be a harrowing experience! It was better in the early morning.
Also, check in time is exactly 3pm or later. We arrived around 2:45 and were told to wait until after 3 which was fine as there was a nice sitting area and at 3 pm the staff promptly came to check us in. Just don't expect to check in early unless you make prior arrangements. If your commute gets you in before check in in may be worth just leaving bags and going out to enjoy the afternoon. The Open Air Museum was a highlight!
Staff were very kind and informative. At check in, they sat me down & explained everything about the hotel. My room had the most incredible view of Hakone. The hotel was very clean. The bath house was very nice. There was also a neat little lounge room with records and such as well as a foot bath on the first floor. I did not take advantage of these things during my stay but still very nice features! The free breakfast was decent, mostly bread items. I don’t really have any complaints.
Our stay at Hakone Suisen was wonderful. The hospitality and warmth of the staff made us feel genuinely cared for. They have a well-managed indoor and outdoor onsen. Their breakfast service is also lovely. At checkout, a kind staff member even drove our luggage to the train station, going above and beyond. We would love to return.
Upon arrival, one staff member was not very welcoming. Since we arrived early, our intention was to leave our bags and explore the area, but he did not explain the no-shoes policy and came across as rude, which was a bit uncomfortable.
That said, during check-in, the young lady who assisted us was extremely polite and took the time to clearly explain everything. Her professionalism made a great impression.
Overall, the hotel is beautiful, and aside from the initial interaction, we had a pleasant experience.
