I decided to spend more than I usually spend on my Barstow stopover in my bi-annual travels to visit family in Northern California. As far as I’m concerned, it was a waste of money. The first room I checked in to had a broken burglar chain, and my fits question was, seriously, what modern hotel still uses burglar chains to secure their doors? Then I checked the window to make sure it was secure as it was a first floor room, and the lock was broken! As a single woman, traveling alone, I called to the front desk immediately and explained the issue, to which the clerk responded to come down, and she would check me into another room. The second room was adequate, nothing special, with a dated bathroom, and a very confusing heating/cooling system.
The room was warm upon entry, so I lowered the thermostat temperature, thinking that the heat wouldn’t come on until the room temp fell below the 72° at which I set it. But no, the air-conditioning came on, blowing cold air into the room throughout! When I asked the clerk about how to ensure that AC wouldn’t continue blowing into my room, she was unsure about the system in general. I don’t understand when hotel staff isn’t properly trained in explaining use of its systems.
For the above listed reasons, I won’t be returning to this hotel.
