"First time I ever heard of an early check-in charge. We had an 11 hour overlay in Edmonton so we booked a room to clean up and nap. We arrived at the hotel at about 1 pm and the room was ready. However, the check-in time is at three, so they wanted to charge a early check-in fee equivalent to almost half the price of the room! When the man at the counter saw the look on my face, he tried to bargain: he told me that if I was willing to wait an hour for nothing in the waiting area, he would drop the extra charge! I just paid it so that we could have access to the room. Some hotels invest good money in making their clients comfortable, others, like this one, will go out of their way to make the experience as unpleasant and lucrative as possible. On top of that, the room, though clean enough, smelled like an ashtray. I was to angry at the extra charge to call the front desk."
