Top Kaukakee State Fish and Wildlife Area Hotel Reviews
Best Western Indian Oak
10/10 Excellent
"The breakfast was ample, with plenty of hot and cold options. The pool was fine, and the sauna was an added benefit. I wasn't expecting to do birdwatching from the motel, but it is on a small lake, and there were egrets and lots of other birds very nearby. The shower was easily accessible (my husband uses a wheelchair)."
"We requested and stayed in a handicap accessible room. Many of the features were fine. However, the lighting needs to be updated. There should be NIGHT LIGHTS in the bathroom and the main room. We brought one on our own, and unfortunately forgot to take it home with us. But the hotel needs to figure out a solution for people seeing their way to the bathroom during the night, without turning on strong lights (which wake a person up). And then is the bathroom, to find a person's way about without the full strong lights that are the only alternative.
There could also be a comfortable chair with hand rails. There was a desk chair that should be replaced because it doesn't help a person to sit or stand with the help of side arms.
Lastly, there was no directory in the room for instructions on how to use the TV, how to find certain channels, or how to arrange for a wake up call.
It would be nice to hear back once these problems are addressed at this Valparaiso Holiday Inn Express. Otherwise, this is a nice place to stay."
"The toiletries are small and limited, the room was clean, but our tub filled up during shower. The staff were great and caring. Breakfast was also much better than expected.
The front doors were broken and kept opening/closing randomly. The fire alarm went off and we exited it was smoke in the kitchen. However, it left the elevators unusable for several hours. We had guests that could not climb stairs very well.
I do not believe it’s a staff issue more a facility in need up several upgrades. "
