“I arrived at the hotel at 1 pm, having called in advance to ask whether they could expedite the check in because I was staying only for one day. They said they would do their best. I waited at the reception within their full view until around 4 pm. My room was ready only after I went up to the desk twice to ask about it, was given the excuse that they were fully booked while several other guests who arrived two hours after me were being checked in.

“We paid in full before we arrived, only to be told an additional $375 USD was payable on arrival. On our departure $229 was retained for “amenity use”. (Internet, pool) We could not use the pool due to not even being able to take teenagers up there as they are not 21 and there is a bar in the area. Internet for $229?
I could understand if an amount was retained for amenity use but it is unreasonable not to state this up front - particularly when it was such a large amount.
