We thoroughly enjoy the authentic experience and hospitality at Ishibekoji MUAN.
Would highly recommend to other looking for the traditional old town vibe, with close proximity to all the attractions.
Truly one of the best stays of all my travels. It was personalised to every detail, from the moment we entered as we got to chose our welcome drink to the luggage delivery service with extra attention in the end. The location was precious, very historical and quite private, while the amenities were unexpectedly very modern. The staff were beyond adorable and extremely helpful; Shinyi and Sae are very caring and we already miss them! Having the breakfast served in the room was also great. This place felt like a home away from home. We can’t wait to come back.
My father and I stayed at Ishibekoji Muan on his first visit to Kyoto, and Shin went out of her way to make our stay wonderful. Whether it was dinner reservations, taxi bookings or hunting down sake glasses that I admired, she made it all happen effortlessly for us. The property itself is immaculate and elegant, and comfortable to boot. A slice of hospitality heaven in historic Kyoto!
Our stay at ishebekoji MUAN was absolutely incredible. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel so welcome. They were genuinely kind, attentive, and eager to help. They went above and beyond, offering delicious (and less touristy) restaurant recommendations and ensuring every part of our stay was seamless.
The hotel itself is tucked away on one of Kyoto’s most private and picturesque walking streets, lined with traditional inns and beautiful old structures. It feels like stepping into another world, quiet, elegant, and deeply rooted in tradition.
Our room was comfortable and spacious, with high-quality amenities and a traditional bathtub. The in-room Japanese breakfast was an unforgettable highlight, beautifully prepared, seasonal, and unlike anything we’ve experienced elsewhere.
I can’t imagine staying anywhere else in Kyoto. This is a truly exceptional boutique hotel that captures the essence of Japanese hospitality. Highly recommended.
We had an incredible experience at this beautiful ryokan: private, serene & calm: the kind of Kyoto experience we were hoping for. The futons/pillows/linens were very comfortable, & the bathroom was beautiful. The room was filled with thoughtful amenities: green tea, Nespresso pods, rice crackers, soaking salts for the bath, etc. The staff took such good care of us & made us feel so cared for. They helped us with dinner reservations, made wonderful recommendations for meals & bars, & accepted our luggage for an early arrival - all of which helped to make our stay stress-free. We had the traditional Japanese breakfast, which was delicious. We recommend this hotel without reserve & can't wait to come back.
Me and my wife just recently got married and we chose to travel to Kyoto as our first trip in Japan together! We couldn’t have asked for better host or a better location for our experience. The room was amazing and easily worth the price. 10/10!
This is a truly special place... a highlight of our two week trip to Japan. From the magical location to our beautiful room (that tub!) to the amazing, kind and attentive staff, it was every romantic dream we had of Kyoto come true. Thank you Ishibekoji MUAN!!!
We loved our stay there. The staff are friendly, the rooms are clean. Great bathroom! Dyson hair dryer, heated bathroom floor, large, relaxing tub. Many places are walkable
