Playa Miramar Tours

Playa Miramar showing general coastal views
Surf the waves, eat in the restaurants and enjoy a day in the sun at one of Manzanillo’s most popular beaches.

Rent a board from one of the vendors at Playa Miramar and surf the gentle waves that break along the length of the beach. End your surf session with fresh seafood at one of the thatched beachside restaurants and shop for souvenirs at the craft stalls lining the road behind the beach. Take a walk around Las Peñitas Lagoon where you can see a range of wildlife.

Playa Miramar, “View of the Sea,” is one of the most popular beaches in the Manzanillo area. Local families and groups of friends come here to cool off in the sea after work and enjoy picnics. Visitors are well catered for as well with a good range of rental outlets, restaurants and souvenir stalls.

Surfing is the most popular pastime at Playa Miramar. A number of outlets along the beach rent  boogie boards and surfboards. If you’ve never tried surfing before, book a lesson with one of the schools on the beach. More experienced surfers will find the best waves at the Olas Atlas end of the beach. If surfing doesn’t appeal, you can also choose from a number of other watersports such as kayaking or windsurfing.

Enjoy local cuisine in one of the palapas, thatched open restaurants, along the shore or shop for jewelry in one of the open-air markets. Make sure you bargain with the vendors to get a good price.

Take a stroll on the paved walkway around the Peñitas Lagoon. Egrets, herons and other birdlife call this area home be in the area at sunset to see them come to roost. You might even catch a glimpse of something larger in the water, as crocodiles live in this habitat.

Horseback tours are also a popular way to see this beach. Book a tour to explore the area and have an exhilarating gallop across the sands before ending your day with a cool drink in one of the beach bars.

Playa Miramar is in Santiago Bay between Playa Olas Atlas and Playa Boutiqua. To get here, take a bus from central Manzanillo.

Miramar is my favorite Manzanillo beach.  Great sand, gentle grade into the ocean, big rolling waves that are fun to play in, and good restaurants with beach tables and umbrellas.  I could spend all afternoon just swimming and sipping a drink and having lunch — and I most often do!
