The Bidwell House

The Bidwell House

10/10 Excellent
"While the property was lovely and well furnished and maintained, the unquestionable highlight of our stay was the gourmet breakfast prepared each day by a genial and superbly talented chef. Treat yourself to at least one night ( and breakfast) at this inn if you travel anywhere near Chester, CA, or Lassen Volcanic National Park."

Drakesbad Guest Ranch

Drakesbad Guest Ranch

10/10 Excellent
"Drakesbad Guest Ranch is located in the remote Warren Valley, although it is part of Lassen Volcanic National Park. It is famous throughout northern CA as a place where families can vacation, setting the kids free to run through its gorgeous meadow, fish at Dream Lake, ride horses to Devil's Kitchen (volcanic mud pots) and hike back trails to Boiling Lake & beyond. A small paradise on earth, it was always booked at least a year in advance. After the devastating Dixie Fire which ran through the area (2nd largest fire in CA history), the area has now rebounded, the meadow as lush as ever, green pine trees still stand at lower elevations and you can see how quickly the forest is rebounding. Ranch staff are wonderfully friendly and helpful, the food is abundant and good. Please help this place to stay alive and thrive. The reward is golden meadows, gorgeous hikes, and stunning dark Milky Way skies."
