Reception was warm & friendly. Restaurant service and food was good. Bedroom was slightly cool in middle of the night but not enough to spoil my stay. I will stay there again.

The dinner menu was poor, with only a few items in both the Starter and Main menu being what one might expect. Overall the dinner and drinks prices for what was available were on the high side especially for the time of year.If the hotel wants to attract more customers during the quiet times offer a down to earth package including food and drinks.

We loved our stay at Dryborough abbey. It was so comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. Look forward to a return visit in the future.

Great staff.... they are the best thing abou Good restaurant ... steaks could have been better Welcoming, cosy lounge grubby worn out room...filthy carpet...dated worn furnishings....in need of a thorough deep clean and refurb Shower and water pressure very poor... Not a place to return to....had we been staying more than one night would have insisted on a room change....

We often stay at the Dryburgh Abbey Hotel because of its warm and friendly welcome. The staff are professional and go the extra mile to make a comfortable, happy, friendly atmosphere. The hotel surroundings are naturally very attractive and peaceful with views of the river and Abbey.

Location was perfect for us. It felt remote but was still only a short drive to the village. Visited local areas and easily caught the train to Edinburgh. The staff were friendly and approachable and the room very comfortable. We would consider staying again.

Beautiful character building - with a little more attention to detail could be excellent. Lovely rooms but would be better if bathroom had full instead of part renovation. Most staff friendly- some if receptionists could be much more so! Left today with not so much as did you enjoy your stay, goodbye or have a good journey!

Relaxing stay
Relaxing night in one of the Tweed rooms. Very comfy bed. Lovely river view. Friendly staff. Enjoyed our evening meal and breakfast.

Could be a fantastic facility if upgraded into this century. When we entered room, it was just like entering into a fridge. Very small electric heating took about a day to raise temperature. Room service only if you ask for it, which is not always carried out as requested. Location is second to none next to the Abbey and the river Tweed. Scottish breakfast every day, but alternatives only on Sundays. Plenty to explore in the Borders area. Restaurant offering could do with an upgrade, too. It was almost impossible to get condensation out of the room. By the looks of it the hotel proprietor does not seem to have been exposed to many hotel experiences worldwide, otherwise he would be aware that considerable upgrading could be achieved without massive investments. Personnel was always forthcoming.

Stayed for one night whilst exploring the area, a lovely hotel set right next to the river Tweed with some fantastic walking options and a very helpful walking guide provided by receptionist. Check in was easy & hassle free, our room was large and clean with a comfortable bed & an adjoining lounge. Very much enjoyed our stay

Fantastic setting and location-the Hotel is of an age so you you need to accept this as there is evidence of wear & tear but this did not spoil the experience-staff are friendly and helpful-only of a personal comment the mattress was far too soft for me with my lower back issues

I had the worst experience with Dryburgh Abbey on Oct 6 night. The room was full of dust in the air. I don’t even have allergies but I woke up with a headache and sore throat, With running nose cold and cough. I asked the receptionist to change my room - she said they were fully booked and refused to change the room, I then asked in the morning for any allergy relief medication. They did not have it. So I had to go out in the rain while being sick to get it. Then they said they had ‘fixed the room’. But they had just sprayed room freshener. It was again suffocating and I got sick because of staying in the room. They have a Very beautiful property. However my room was not clean. I had to take my Saturday as rest day to recover and couldn’t do my touristy activities because of them. They need a health inspection from the Goverment and shouldn’t be allowed to function without proper sanitation. It’s a public health hazard.

I do not doubt for a moment that you felt unwell during your visit but I do not feel the reason was related to the property. The bedroom was cleaned according to our normal protocols and was checked prior to your arrival. We have been very busy recently and the room was used 5 days out of the 7 days prior to your arrival and there were no complaints from previous occupiers.You mention that you do not have allergies but I believe you referred to a “flare-up” in the morning. This is an unusual phrase for someone who does not normally suffer.I am sorry that you felt unwell during your stay but cannot accept that it was because your room had not been cleaned properly.

Beautiful hotel, great dinner and breakfast and fantastic location right next to the lovely abbey. We loved it. And the receptionist was so nice! Perfect for first night on Saint Cuthbert’s Way!

This hotel is in an area that is hard to fault. Beautiful and peaceful and the building is old and interesting with fantastic views. Internally we found it to be dated and 'tired' especially our room which had damp marks on the walls. The reception staff were excellent, efficient and friendly. The restaurant food was good quality and well prepared. Breakfast was good and varied, however several people had to ask for items from the buffet which had run out, the staff here were not on top form.

After long journey, arrived 6PM & advised there was no room in the dining room for evening meal, even though Expedia website said there were 7 of 38 rooms available - perhaps no preference for staying/paying guests over access to facilities? We were provided a list of alternative restaurants (first of which was closed - not the most up-to-date list, then?), so another car journey since the hotel is located in an isolated, but admittedly beautiful location. Strangely, keys to those checking in were left in the door to your room, so bit of a security issue there as anyone has access to your room before you do. Cleanliness left a lot to be desired - I had to move a bedside cabinet to get access to plug sockets to recharge mobile & was greeted by several days of dust, a discarded hairband & a dead moth. Also cobwebs under the sink in the bathroom, which also had black mould in several areas. Ventilation in bathroom was incredibly poor with the extractor fan wholly inadequate so that the mirror dripped with condensation & heat in the bathroom became close to steam room grade. Hand basin in the bathroom set VERY high & is awkward to use - it would need a step for children to access safely. The shower is over the bath, which is very slippery, although we asked for and obtained a rubber mat, but it is the wrong shape for the bath & impedes the plughole, so your shower quickly becomes a shallow bath. Insufficient parking at times. However, excellent breakfast and helpful staff on duty

Great location, beautiful building and surrounding. However, there was a stain in my carpet, across my bedroom floor. I found the walls to be a little thin, listening to the lady next door talking to her dog, and tell her child his attitude was rude. I also found my chicken, ar dinner, very dry. In fact, even the gravy based sauce was a little baked, around the edges.

Room with no dinner offered!!
We arrived tired and hungry and cold after a day fishing in the rain and a 2hr drive. We found a surly receptionist and no cheerful greeting-a disgrace to our nation ant the catering industry. The room was fine spacious and plenty of hot water. However when we tried to book dinner we were told that there was no space!!! To accept a room reservation with no opportunity to have dinner is completely unacceptable and at the very least we should have been forewarned. A pity as it completely spoiled a potentially good place to stay. Bed ok but pillows hard and too few. One shortbread between 2 is a bit scanty. Breakfast adequate

To be frank, we were a little taken aback with your unforeseen behaviour at point of arrival. As well as being rude to our Receptionist you were rude to your partner. We do not agree that we are a disgrace to the nation and would respectfully advise you to consider/reflect on your own behaviour in the first instance.
