โWhat a delightful place to stay! Cannot praise the staff enough! They were all so helpful, friendly and accomodating. Some English speaking staff, who were honestly the best we met in our two week stay in Japan. We were told that they donโt get many English-speaking visitors and we were the only ones there, which my teen son and I loved. We love immersing in the Japanese experience when visiting, and this hotel definitely offered this.
The rooms were simple but clean and tidy and well...
โThe Lotte Arai is the best hotel for skiing and onsen. Super soft endless powder snow on the gorgeous mountain hills and the slopes were adventurous and super exciting. The expert++ slopes can be another surplus if you are expert level. The onsen is luxury level. Sitting in the hotel water with snow falling on your head, especially at Lotte's well groomed onsen is unforgettable.
The food at the hotel is not luxury level and limited as the location is all on its own with the city being 20-30 mins...
โHotel Hanabun was a great ryokan experience! It is nestled in the mountains offering a peaceful getaway from touristy/crowded areas. It had the best onsen water, even the locals went there to bathe!
The hosts and staff are all friendly and accommodating to your needs. Google translate was necessary to communicate, but everyone is very patient. The food was incredibly delicious, and they use locally sourced, fresh ingredients. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy ryokan. โ
โCome here for the best experience. So cozy. Small mountain town. Itโs not the four seasons, itโs much better. Family owned. Lowkey. Come and enjoy yourself. โ
โNot only is this lodge one of kind, the owners and staff set it apart by offering a very special experience for all guests. We arrived late in the evening and were greeted by the owner welcoming us in and getting us settled in our room. They made sure we got sorted in the morning and ready for our Myoko Adventure. We will be back, only question is how many times!!!โ
โOnly the couple managing the property, doing all rooms and check in and dining. So be patient. Even they might not know much English they still provide great service and try to accommodate your needs.
Nice restaurants and convenient store around though most close early. Walking distance to the Akakura Obsen Ski area.โ
โItโs just beautiful. They have a shuttle to the ski areas that arenโt walkable. Free shuttle from and to the train station. They were very friendly and helped me set up my luggage transportation to the next ski location. โ

The food at the hotel is not luxury level and limited as the location is all on its own with the city being 20-30 mins drive away from the site. One snowy evening when the Japanese, steak house, and Thai restaurant was full we drove out in the heavy snow to a slightly city area and found a local restaurant reccomending their stove rice pot, it became my top 3 best restaurant in Japan. I would reccomend driving out for food there was also a great Yakiniku not far away too."
