Acceptable property in the middle of town. Lots of poverty all around, but that is to be expected in the center of any urban environment. Restaurants and shops close by, but also keep in mind this is where the HUGE passenger ships dock and let out tens of thousands of drive-by-tourists for souvenir shopping. The rooms of the Towne Hotel are tiny and not designed for lounging about. The room and sheets were clean. The rooftop is open for sunbathing and rain-watching. You can find locally made souvenirs in the Straw Market (two blocks away), arts and crafts, uncluding wood carvings made from local Bahama wood. The Hotel itself, sidewalks, buildings, facilities, etc around the Towne Hotel are showing signs of heavy urban use, meaning run down and not new. I had a very tasty breakfast omelette in the Hotel, but be patient as it may take a while, but it arrived piping hot and delicious!
I prefer more upscale lodging myself, but I also was not willing to pay the upscale price of $330 per night.
