The clerk looked and said we were good and right by each other. I took that to mean “next to each other and adjoining”, but we were across the hall. I don’t think he actually checked - I think the system assigned the next two - 305/306, while the option for connecting rooms may have actually been an option. If families with kids book together, I would think it makes sense to give adjoining rooms - they can always opt to not open the shared door."
