Before you booked your room via Expedia, you had the ability to avail yourself of 50-plus images of our guestrooms as well as the exterior of our lodging establishment. Clearly, we are dedicated to maintaining the historic significance of our retro motel. Thus, we would never consider removing original accoutrements like our colorful bathroom fixtures. We appreciate your recognition of our effort to offer our valued guests a very clean guestroom at a reasonable price. Our office notified Orbitz at 10 p.m. that your reservation was canceled as you were a no-show per our guidelines. In response, their reservation system should have immediately generated a Notice of Cancellation via email to you. Your complaint is with Orbitz.

Hello Anonymous, It is quite unfortunate that you were only able to describe the shower tiles in your particular room as being "out dated" and "pink and grey." Those tiles, sir, are handcrafted, mosaic tiles that were completely sourced from our county. You made the decision to stay at a historical property with a long and rich history that predates our modern interstate system. There are, however, numerous cookie-cutter, box-style lodging properties with PVC shower inserts mostly sourced from China all over this country. It would appear that you would be happier choosing one of those types of properties next time. As per your bafflement concerning "the little black things in your sheets," I would assert to you that your sheets were full of crumbs from the food that you chose to consume in the bed rather than at the table provided in your room. The amount of crumbs in your sheets made your stay all the more memorable for us. Which is fine, but don't try to make it something more than it was simply because you were put off by handcrafted, locally-sourced mosaic tiles. Regardless of your opinion, we have zero plans to conform to your preferred shower ideal. Apparently. you were happy with our smartphone-capable entry lock system, the smart tv in your room, the new Corian bathroom countertop, the cooling comfort Amana PTAC unit, the free in-room business class high-speed internet service, Roku streaming tv programming offering hundreds of channels, the new click lock flooring, a 3.2 cubic ft. refrigerator and microwave oven, and so much more. Please, enjoy your day.

Thank you for booking your room at historic Baker's Motel on The National Road. You selected a room located in the most original section of our historic motel. In those days, the scale of things was much smaller simply because people were much smaller. However, we do offer the largest guestrooms in our area (15'X30') with bathtubs, but those rooms are located in a newer section of our motel, and you chose not to book one of those larger, slightly more expensive guestrooms. We are very interested in maintaining the historic significance of our lodging establishment, thus we have no plans to ruin our locally-sourced, handmade tiled showers with a plastic shower insert likely manufactured in China. We are also very serious about providing a restful experience for our guests. On those rare occasions when a misguided guest believes that he or she has a right to disturb another guest, we take immediate action to either end the disturbance via compliance with our expectations or the offending guest will be told to leave. We don't tolerate nonsense. Unfortunately, you left us at a distinct disadvantage to address the issue about the "loud outside phone conversation," because you also chose to air your complaint on a public forum after you checked out without ever giving us the opportunity to address the issue while it supposedly was happening. Your lodging experience here would have been drastically different if you had made the decision to book a much larger guestroom with a bathtub for approximately $10 more and if you had made the decision to contact us directly about the offending guest. Those were your decisions.

Our housekeeping staff was delighted to find the complimentary note left for them in your room after your departure. They were complimented for their attention to detail and for the cleanliness of the room. It was shared with management. In fact, we were never contacted about anything that would have so negatively impacted your stay. Therefore, we must conclude your rating was made in error.

"There was a creepy guy sitting outside his room smoking weed while his baby mama rode around the parking lot on a hover board holding a baby." One has to wonder who was actually smoking weed. Also, it appears "the overall vibe" you got was incorrect since you survived your stay and were able to write a rather entertaining yet trippy review. Thanks for the laugh!

We appreciate your kind words concerning our preservation efforts, the cleanliness of your room, and your check-in experience. We purchase our pillows, bedspreads, and all linens from a hotel supply company, so they are standard for our industry. Our white sheets are flat, but the bottom sheet is always larger than the size required for the mattress in order to keep the bottom sheet tucked neatly under and around the mattress. As with everything else in your room, the bedspread, the white sheets and the mattress protector were clean. In fact, the mattress in your room is stain-free, because the mattress protector does what it is supposed to do. Also, your clean blanket was located in the bottom drawer of your dresser. If you would have contacted us about your concerns at any point during your two-day stay, we would have been happy to provide you with this information.

We remember you. You were the person who came into our office and immediately and dramatically expressed your regret at making a reservation "so far away" {10 miles) from a city. Being that you are from one of the largest metropolitan areas in the nation, occasionally people like you feel "threatened" by wide open spaces, fresh country air, and friendly folk. Although we are situated only one-quarter mile from Interstate 70 with quick access (10 minutes) to the nearest city, it was obvious that you did not want to stay. We won't address your outlandish complaints, because we don't have the time. Our occupancy rate is one of the highest in the area, because this property is very well-maintained both inside and outside. In fact, this property has been welcoming guests since 1937. We have no inclination to hide anything. Unfortunately, you were not logistically where you wanted to be, so instead of owning up to that fact in your review, you created drama both before and after you left. Please check your hidden agenda.

Unbelievable. Let's begin with YOU booking your room through Hotels.com. You clearly saw via text and photos the description of historic Baker's Motel on The National Road. It clearly is not a "cheap old motel." After reviewing the information about Baker's Motel, YOU chose to book a room at this charming property. Once we received your reservation, you were sent a digital access code via a text message to access your room for a later check-in. Our manager specifically asked you if that would be a problem, and YOU responded "that would be fine." In fact, YOU thanked him for the follow-up call. As for the cable TV cord being cut, you're welcome. We made a business decision to offer our guests a truly eye-watering selection of programming including an untold number of movies, TV shows, series, news, pay-per-view, etc. MSNBC did not make the cut. Honestly, we've never had anyone claim MSNBC as their favorite news channel. You are the first. In addition, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PROVIDE YOUR STREAMING PASSWORDS, but YOU know this. Lastly, we do not advertise that we offer breakfast or in-room coffee. Coffee is available all morning long in our lobby. In fact, YOU had plenty of time to stop over for a Cup of Joe, because our security system shows you leaving about 10:45 a.m. just 15 minutes before our check-out time. Collectively, some of us here have had the unfortunate experience of staying at cheap old motels/hotels during our lifetimes, and the consensus was that everyone one of us made the decision to either (1) leave immediately, or (2) try to tough it out but admitted defeat and gave up after a couple of hours. YOU, on the other hand, apparently "suffered" from 10:20 p.m. to 10:45 a.m. Reasonable people will see your review for what it is. Have a wonderful day!

Baker's Motel is a historically-significant lodging establishment on The National Road. Originally built as a cabin court, this iconic property is one of the very few continuously-operating original cabin courts in existence today. Cabin courts preceded the motel or motor inn which in turn preceded today's typical hotel - the noisy, square box with rooms stacked one on top of the other, with people sharing elevators, common hallways, and their communicable diseases. Who truly believes that a historic lodging property could welcome guests for over 80 years if said property wasn't regularly upgraded? Our property is quiet, clean, and charming with all modern amenties for a very comfortable stay.
