โI stayed at the Chaya house which was absolutely stunning. The staff were incredibly friendly and a joy to speak with. Otsu is a smaller quiet town with lots of character and friendly residents. I highly recommend checking out the local Izakayas and cafes for an equally excellent experience.โ
โPositive point: very short distance from station. Near this guesthouse, there's a nice udon restaurant. Room is big enough to rest.
Negative Point: short distance from station also means there'll be some noise caused by train.
I saw a giant bug on the ceiling at night.
Moreover, some electric outlets and little lamp on the bed didn't work. Only outlets in 2 out of 4 beds worked properly.
Air conditioner works well, but it barely gets warm.
You should pay by cash if you are a foreigner. I saw...
โShared bathroom was not a problem at all but the fact that the bathrooms are not in the guestrooms was a bit inconvenient. But excellent services by the staff who make you feel at home and the fact that this actually was a home (to a member of Japanese royal family) gives it a truly unique experience.โ
โWe are a family of four, three adults and one older teen. We really enjoyed our stay at this property. Fantastic amenities in the rooms and the location was amazing. Highly recommend for your trip to Kyoto โ
