โWe stayed in the cottage and we had a great time. The continental breakfast was good beautiful view from breakfast room. The cottage was very spacious, beds were very comfortable. We were four adults traveling together and we had plenty of room to spread out. I will definitely go there again.โ
โBeautiful, nostalgic property. Love the old displays of pictures, furniture, and the employees were very knowledgeable about the property history. Restaurant food and service were excellent. We will definitely be returning. โ
โSeems like most of the hotel has been updated, our suite has not been. Fantastic breakfast. Clean and warm pool. Good location. Our room was clean and tidy, but in the older part and it smelled like an โold ladyโs houseโ when we walked into the building, but not in our room. Our 3rd or 4th time staying there in about 12 years.โ
โThe pool was under renovations. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Great place when visiting in the area. Breakfast was.also good.โ
โCheck in was quick and even showed where to park. Outside of the Motel is okay but the room was great! Had an end unit (Room 64) which was larger than a basic room. The room was spacious, clean and updated (with a touch of retro - fridge and microwave). Bathroom was a little tight but clean and modern tile with a flare of retro (tube but like new). Location is great! One block from the beach and two blocks to the Hampton Ballroom and Casino and all the shops. โ
โWe loved our stay! From the staff to the decor, we were impressed with Hotel Thaxter. It is so charming and a wonderful alternative to a more commercial hotel. It felt like we were staying in someoneโs home, without paying the fees of a vacation rental. โ
โAbsolutely loved this place. Itโs like the perfect cross between B&B and hotel. The staff was delightful. We really enjoyed the speakeasy in the basement (hi Jim!). We met so many fellow travelers there. The location is perfect. Portsmouth is a great town, totally walkable, very safe and we canโt wait to come back. Highly recommend staying hereโ
โWe have been to the Mainsail 4 times, the penultimate time being in 2019. Before, it was cleaner. Inside the room: Ceiling fan is full of dust, the air conditioning blades too, the bottom of the shower curtain is very dirty. The staff only changes the towels, but a good sweeper to pick up the sand would be nice. The exterior is perfect. Parking is very good and everything is secure.โ
