Good but not worth the extra cost! We have somewhat of a unique perspective on this property having stayed the previous week at the RIU Palace Riviera Maya' The RIU was $2160.00 per week, $309.00 per day/ Secrets was $3884.00 per week, $554.00 per day. So what do you get for the extra $245.00 per day ... not much! Both properties are rated 4.5 stars by Trip Advisor. Secrets has 412 rooms, 7 restaurants and 2 pools. RIU has 460 rooms, 7 restaurants and 4 pools. Advantages of Secrets: Much bigger room, slightly better food, a concierge for your building (40 rooms) and no kids. This is offset by: constant pressure to "upgrade". For example want a private table by the pool? Buy a bottle of wine for $75.00 to $100.00. Wine that costs $8-12 here. Poolside or beachside cabana? $100.00 per day. Private dinner on the beach? $280.00 to $ 420.00 per couple. Plus when you check in you are invited to presentation about joining their VIP club. You get a $400.00 credit for a massage if you attend. Membership, I was told ,by other guests, costs $5000.00 to 20,000.00. Gives you upgrades, free weeks stay, private lounge but I don't know if it's a good. deal.
