If, in the immortal words of Special Agent Dale Cooper, what you want us a clean place, reasonably priced, Del Rancho is it. The surfaces and bedding were all absolutely clean. (Stains don't count, I'm talking about hygiene.) The air conditioning unit works REALLY WELL. The fridge and microwave both were very clean, and worked well. The water pressure was good! The linens (bed and bath) were thoroughly laundered. There were zero weird smells, which also speaks to the stringent cleanliness standards here. The floors were hard, which is wonderful if, like me, you detest motel carpeting.
Decor: almost none. Did I care? Not really! If you feel uncomfortable in an environment that's clearly been lived in and not necessarily cared about by hundreds or thousands of individuals before you, don't stay here. It's not pretending to be a guest room, it's a bedroom and bathroom for rent. The pictures of one brightly colored wall, or any kind of non-horrible interior lighting? Those are out of date. Past guests have tagged the headboards and put holes in the walls, but the holes have been patched and painted.
tl;dr: Don't come for the ambience. Do stay for the solid basic amenities... even in a Portland heat wave. Well done, Del Rancho!
