Nice cozy room above a pub. Comfortable and just what was needed for an overnight stay.
Better than staying at cookie cutter run of the mill hotel or motel. Feel the charm of British culter and hospitality. Well worth forgoing some amenities just for the experience.
The room was very comfortable and ensuite. Tea and coffee facility was in kitchen next door to room my only criticism is the stairs to the rooms, very steep. I was there near there weekend so the outside noise was quiet loud until about 1/2 am but thats what you get if you choose this sort of location. This is not the property fault, is mine, if i want a quieter location then i should choose out of town hotels. This is a very good place to stay !!
Check with owners for parking problems that the owner can sort. He was very helpful ..
Other reviews have mentioned the noise problem from the bar below, and there is music until close to midnight. This was only on one of the two nights I stayed as on the first bar was closed. However, the noise from the street was loud both nights. Had to have the windows open since there was no fan in the room, which it could have used. When bar was open one could order some very good Mexican Food. Bed was comfortable and the the presence of the microwave oven and an electric kettle can save money on food. Convenient to a bus line that takes one right to the entrance of the Navy Dockyards and the historic ships. Overall a very reasonable priced room, keeping in mind that there is no on site help, the owners did keep in touch via email.
Room was ok for the price. Facilities ok for the price. The bed was a disgrace. The mattress must have been 20 years old, no padding on top of the springs. Dreadful nights sleep. Had to sleep on top on the duvet to get some comfort.
Shower waste needs cleaning, the tray had filled with water when in use. Needs a good clean round the bottom where the shower doors are.
The remote control quite dirty, couldnt find many channels on tv.
If you have mobility issues, then you will struggle, as there is a spiral staircase, and narrow straircase.
i had blue room and had a double bed, could of done with a bedside table instead of chair, not really much room to put a cup on.
I'd say its the perfect place if you are young and want the night life, its very noisey till early hours, 3.40am people outside shouting, could hear them even with windows closed, its an old building, without double glazing, parking was anightmare!
There is a seperate kitchen area and small fridge which was handy for a couple of cans of drink, kettle and crockery, i wouldn't stay again due to the noise and stairs i am 56, visiting my son at uni
A long overdue visit to the Isle of Wight was the reason why I was staying in Portsmouth on the Friday night. The room was more than adequate for my needs.
I walked from Portsmouth City Centre and the twenty minute walk gave me a bit of thinking time about the following day.
Also within walking distance is a giant Tesco store at Fratton, right next to Fratton Park-the atmospheric home of Portsmouth FC. There is a bus that passes the location, run by First Solent and which is frequent enough.
I would have little hesitation about booking again in the future and would be more than happy to recommend it

A very long text gives you codes etc to door and how to get to the room and shower room key, as no one at property to welcome you. TV very temperamental, with poor signal. 1 coat hanger in room.
Start with positives. Greeted by a lovely lady. She couldn't of been more helpful.
The bookings process was awful not sure whose fault that was. Which resulted in many more interactions than i wanted or needed at a stressful time from a quite unpleasant man. I was traveling for surgery. The stairs were lethal. Im not fully ambulatory so really struggled. The room was incredibly hot only a tiny window. It had been wiped down but needed some tlc. It was very noisy from both the other guests and outside noise. Cheap yes but not cheerful.

The room was perfectly acceptable as was the ensuite. The stairs are very steep but there are rails. The TV had no picture on any channels. The room was quite cold, needs radiator on more hours. The position within Southsea is great - close to Wedgewood Rooms and loads of restaurants and pubs. Great price

The room was in good condition and everything worked.
1. The stairs to the room are incredibly steep, not like a modern stairway. UNLESS you are in good health with NO mobility problems then you will not be able to access them. Yes, they really are that bad! Not far of the width and angle of a ladder, with tight turning landings and more ladders!
2. I had several heavy bags, the barman on arrival led me to my room, watched me struggle because of the stairs but made absolutely no offer to help what so ever. In the hotels defence though it was not the owner, Mark, but a member of staff. But I did email Mark and raised this baggage point but received no response.
3. The room was above the bar and main road. I was awoken several times because of people screaming and shouting outside.
4. My room was TINY, half the size of the one in their pictures, very hot (it was 36 outside!), no fan was provided when requested. I ended up buying one for a few pounds. This is the first b and b I have lodged at that does not provide a fan, and this was the hottest days in 40 years!!!
5. The bed was incredibly uncomfortable, a metal bar protruded mid way down. The matress was ultra thin, and hung between the metal supports. It also squeaked loudly at the slightest movement to the point I was really concerned I was disturbing my neighbour.
6. No sink In the room, just a toilet down a squeaky landing!
7. There were no refreshments provided or offered.
8..I was very uncomfortable leaving my car on the street, no secure parking at all.
If you're travelling alone and want a cheap place to sleep then that's a very good place
The owner is lovely, there is also a little kitchen to share, you're 15min away from the beach and 20min away from the station portsmouth & sea
It was a bit noisy though (friday night)
