Raccoon Key, Key West hotel rooms at the Independent

"We were a group of 6 so the 2 bedroom worked well for us. It was nice to have a full kitchen to cook meals if we wanted. Beds/mattresses could use a refresh, a little uncomfortable and the bath tub didn’t have any hot water but otherwise room was fine. The grounds are beautiful and the pool and its restaurant were great. Lots of outdoor games to play too! You do hear planes overhead all day but that didn’t bother us. It’s about a 15 minute drive into town but the plus is you ca truly walk to the airport! We rented a golf cart and it got us everywhere we needed to go. "

"We stayed in the double suite for our stay. This was perfect for our family of 6. There was free laundry offered on our floor with detergent complimentary from the desk (it does not take pods). The room was clean, beds were comfortable, kitchenette was sufficient. The view was beautiful. Only downside of the larger room is that the balcony was very small, so we did not take advantage of it. The pool was great for the kids. The staff was kind and welcoming, especially Damar at the front desk and one of the service staff who we kept seeing moving towels I believe Charlton - so great!"

"Fair price for the property in this area. Kind of a hassle to take the shuttle every time you wanted to go downtown. Just need to plan for that to make reservations for the shuttle. The pool was popular so if you want 2 loungers together by the pool go early. It is a kid friendly resort. The drinks were good… we ate downtown so didn’t even try the food at the hotel. "

"Our stay was great. The 1 room suite was very nice and spacious. It was like having a 1 room apartment to ourselves. The bedroom was a bit dusty, and under the bed hadn't been cleaned, but we found $5 under there so it was a win for us :) Everything else was clean. We were on the 3rd floor, so having the spiral stairs that led to another balcony was a nice bonus. The pool was great, and my kids loved the chickens & baby chicks everywhere! Cons: The bathroom counters are a bit small, and it was a bit inconvenient that there were not ice machines available. The front desk offers it, but they are not nearby. My biggest annoyance was that the room numbering is a bit confusing. We were in room 238, but it was located on the 3rd floor. Not a huge deal once you know that, but when you first arrive with all of your luggage and small kids at 10:30pm after a full day of traveling and layovers it can be a rough start to your stay. There are only 2 elevators, one on the far side of the building, and another in the middle. The middle elevator was broken, so we parked near the far one, which was on the opposite side of the building from our room. We took the elevator to floor 2, then walked all the way down with all of our luggage, only to find that our room was on floor 3. We had to carry everything up a flight of stairs since the elevator was no longer nearby. Overall, I would recommend this report to friends & family and would consider staying here again."
