We arrived at 5 PM and took one of the last parking spots, they fill up, $8 a night =great deal. First come first serve parking so if you miss out, there is a more expensive parking garage across the street. HI is a couple block walk to downtown area and the state capital. Everything is very clean and well organized.
Outstanding stay. Like staying in a beautiful historic mansion. Great location. Parking and clean. I really enjoyed my stay there and would love to stay again.
I stayed in a single room with an en-suite bath, which did the job for the purpose of my stay, but I would not use again. Room had fresh towels, hot water, A/C and a decent level of privacy. However, the room was next to a staircase, and noise from the staircase was disruptive at all hours of the night. On my last night, someone cooked in the communal kitchen; I generally have no problem with people using communal amenities, but it was 9PM at night, I'd already gone to bed to catch an early flight, and the smell from the cooking infiltrated my room enough that it woke me up. There are also multiple emergency vehicles that travel the area at night with sirens on - every few hours. It was not a bad stay, but it was not a great one, either.
The building is incredible, and a great place to stay in the city - quiet, comfortable, and very close to everything downtown. Staff were warm and friendly, the facilities were very clean, the bed was comfortable. They have a deal worked out with a lovely cafe a couple blocks away so you can get a discount on meals and drinks there. The only walkable groceries are convenience stores/bodegas, but I expected that in a city. Would highly recommend, and I'll be back anytime I need to come through Sacramento.
