There a groynes all over the Norfolk coast. Those are used a defences against erosion. At least I believe this is what they were used for as most of them looks pretty old and I am not sure how effective they are nowadays.

I was amazed with how brown colour of the sea / channel was in the area. Although I did not think initially this would make for good pictures, actually at sunrise in particular it turned to dark pink tints that contrasts nicely with a blue sky.
