White's City Cavern Inn
10/10 Excellent
"We went for slides and restaurant. Second week September. Hot. Slides has just closed for the season even though I called several times to confirm the stay and talked about the slides each time no one caught the mismatch and explained. Restaurant was closed waiting for server to show - we would have missed the cavern which was the point of the stay so we left. There is muffins in the hotel office and small cafeteria at the caverns so we were fine. The hotel is otherwise a pleasant surprise and we loved the rooms. The stairs to the room were worth it because you get very high ceilings and the stairs are half the height of normal stairs by tread so it’s easy to bring your suitcase up and down."

"Perfect stay"
The Classic Desert Aire Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"After a disastrous stay at a neighboring property the night before, I booked one of few open rooms here (our second stay, as we'd had a full suite over Christmas). We got a "junior suite" with a king bed. It was second floor, with no elevator, so we had to haul our bags up, but that was the only negative (aside from the desk chair being all sticky with spilled teriyaki chicken from a prior tenant, we found). A junior suite is two linked former adjoining rooms with the doors removed. One room (huge rooms, by the way) had a king bed, fridge and microwave, while the other had an armchair and ottoman, and a queen-sized hideabed couch! Both rooms had TVs and bathrooms. Two bathrooms in one hotel suite--what luxury! We will definitely make the Classic Desert Aire our home any time we come to Alamogordo, no question."

"We enjoyed our visit and will return again."
La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Carlsbad
8/10 Good
"Loved that they had bacon for breakfast! Most free breakfasts offer some kind of mystery sausage. One negative about breakfast: They had only bran muffins. They must have excellent plumbing! Another positive: normal-size pillows. I hate how so many hotels now have little square pillows that aren't comfortable at all. One negative about the room: The toilet seat didn't stay up, so I had to hold onto it every time I went pee. Designed by a woman, perhaps? In general, though, the room was clean and comfortable. The staff was good, too. There was another guest who had a dog that was barking its head off when we first arrived. The front desk clerk offered to move us if it continued. We didn't hear the dog again until we were checking out, so it wasn't an issue."
