"As a couple we enjoyed a quiet weekend together relaxing in the spa, taking the shuttle to dining venues across the resort and enjoying leisure facilities in the hotel. Service was excellent with staff across the resort eager to assist"

The Parkgate Hotel

"Stayed at The Parkgate Hotel over two nights. Hotel is a short five minute walk from Cardiff Central Station and on arrival, check in was effortless with reception staff explaining all the important amenities and services well, was in no doubt where and what was available during our visit. Breakfast service was first class and we also enjoyed the evening Wellington Experience menu in the Shorting Room Restaurant which definitely lived up to our expectation, from the welcome and seating, champagne cocktails on arrival and the three courses, all first class with no doubt. My only gripes may be small but would have been a concern for us on a longer stay. Surprisingly no mini fridge in the room, a lack of hooks for hanging within the bathroom space, no luggage rack so our suitcases had to be opened up on the floor and only six hangers in the wardrobe. That said I would certainly book at the Parkgate again if travelling to Cardiff, a true four star experience."

"It’s a good answer if you have an impossibly early flight like we did. We did the twilight check in the night before as it’s a steep walk for 7-10 minutes in the open to the terminal. We had babies and toddlers and three large suitcases in pouring rain at 4.30 am. Not fun. They should have some kind of golf cart shuttle service to take people to the terminal - we would have happily paid for it"

"On the downside, it was extremely hot inside the corridors and our room, something one of the staff agreed with. The only way to ventilate our room was to use two glasses to hold the sash windows open as they wouldn't stay open on their own. The stairwell decor could do with a freshen up. On the positive side, the room was a good size and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast good and plentiful. The hotel was perfectly positioned for our event at Sophia Gardens. There were two easily accessible car parks and the staff were very friendly helpful."
