Downtown Motel is situated in a convenient location on Crown Street within walking distance of various bars, restaurants and entertainment options. The staff are welcoming and friendly, however once you pass through the main entrance gate the age of this property shows. When paying $100 a night you're certainly not expecting the Ritz Carlton, but the beds, fixtures and fittings could use an upgrade. Although not within the control of Downtown Motel, future guests should be mindful there is little to no sound-proofing. During our stay the 2am wake up was a group leaving Harp Hotel (who's rear car park shares an adjacent lane way with Downtown Motel), 3am was fellow Downtown Motel patrons returning to their room - which could be still heard even after making their way into their room. 4:30am was other fellow Downtown Motel patrons partaking in some other recreational activities in their room which had the bedhead banging on the wall for an hour, then finally at 6:45am the commercial garbage bin from the Harp Hotel was emptied. After all of that it was a restless night sleep on a tired mattress and we were up and departed early.
As mentioned much of this is outside of the control of the Downtown Motel. However with some more sound proofing and updating of tired fixtures and fittings (e.g. Air-Con and Bedding), the stay would certainly be more comfortable. At the end of the day for $100/night I don't think it would be reasonable to expect much more - just be aware.
