"The hotel is in an excellent location for exploring Cologne. Check in was easy and the room was well proportioned and had everything we’d need.
A de reasons it wasn’t a 5 star for us was the sheets were incredibly itchy. We both had a rash on our legs after night one and this continued during our stay. The room was quite dusty and the bathroom had marks all over the tiles of old shampoo. On our first night, my husband got a beer from the bar. The server unloaded and re-loaded the dishwasher and wiped all the surfaces before paying us any attention, even though we were the only people there. I asked for an Aperol Spritz and she said they could only do beer. She told us to pay at the main desk and didn’t come over to take our payment for almost ten minutes. Pretty good overall, but these stood out to us. "
"Room was mostly clean, apart from the odd splats up the wall (hoping they were clear blood splats). In the bathroom the shower waste cap rolled around the shower like a ball on a roulette wheel. The toilet seat was broken to improve your core when sitting, the bin couldn’t be opened and six sheets of toilet roll on arrival (neatly folded at the end though) The air con is erratic. Towels do not get changed daily and coffee isn’t restocked. The cream for the coffee was pierced so went off. Any noise issues you need to go to reception (according to the tv) which at 3,4 and 5 in the morning I was not willing to run downstairs. Most of the staff are helpful and friendly, but there was a couple of them that like to chat in German to each other whilst customers wait on. I know this sounds a lot, but I’m just picking out some of the intricacies and it’s not that bad. The biggest problem with the hotel is the location (which obviously the staff cannot help) It is next to the train station and in between is the police station. In this area is a concentration of drug takers/dealers, beggars and sex shops/workers. Going with a family means these are not amenities and distract from the trip. Even the police go around this area in groups of 3/4. No issues inside the hotel from the surrounding area. We did have to go out for food every afternoon and evening as they always seem to have problem with the food menu not working/available, so don’t rely on eating at the hotel at these times"
