  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

Great 2 BR house with easy entry. Perfectly clean and nice kitchen. Screened in porch and large shaded, wooded backyard are wonderful.

Very spacious, very clean and very quiet spot. Granville is a lovely college town and the main square was walkable with lots of dining and shopping options. The only negative was the internet was spotty, but it was a minor inconvenience.

Best place ever!

I grew up in Granville and now live out of state. We found this place several years ago and have been staying here every time we visit. The location is super! Right downtown and bars/restaurants/coffee shops within a two minute walk. The owners are great to deal with. The loft is so cute, lots of windows, flat screen TV and a wine cooler. I highly recommend!

Wonderful!!!

My niece and nephew and 2 small kids stayed here over the 4th if Jukt and had a wonderful stay. Such lovely surroundings and excellent decor, plus a short walk to park, bike path, and town. I recommend it to everyone!

A rare gem!

The Loft is a rare find and very special. It is in the very center of Granville, steps from everything. The room has a really comfortable king bed, a couch/chair sitting area with large screen TV and a coffee maker, and a desk area for working. The bath is very nice as well. The decor is outstanding and updated and everything is pristine. The drawers contain extra amenities that may be needed, and the owners have thought of everything (including a turntable with albums) to make it an incredible stay. Just a gem!

Stayed at Small Batch Lodging as my daughter and I checked out Denison University. The dodges was exceptional and was above my expectations. Will look to stay there if we return to Granville!

Frustrating at first

Great stay and the house is comfortable, however when we got there the house was locked. The instructions were to just walk right in, the house would be unlocked. It was December when we stayed, therefore freezing outside. It took a little over an hour before getting a hold of the owner to get the house code to enter. Very frustrating and no money compensation.
