"Everything about The George was very good but it is obviously in the midst of much needed renovations. I felt very sad because I grew up in the area and it was always such a popular hotel. However, we enjoyed our stay and the staff were all very helpful. Dinner was good, despite having to wait quite a long time for it. Good luck to the owners for the future and hope that the renovations go well."

"Appleby Castle is a special destination, steeped in history that you can experience first hand. Staff care deeply about the castle and we thoroughly enjoyed the piano playing during the meal and the history talk after. Having read some of the other reviews, we can’t say we experienced any of the negatives and thought Peter, Sally (and chef!) did a great job it being just them running the castle."

"Lovely traditional hotel. Receptionist was extremely efficient and friendly. Room was as expected, clean but a little tired in places owing to the age of the building. Lovely fluffy white towels. Breakfast Was excellent with a range to suit all dietary requirements. Would I stay here again ? Yes ! "

"Rooms a bit dated but fine and comfortable. Smart TV recently installed which was good addition. Staff very helpful and approachable. Food good. Bar busy as a popular wedding venue. Third stay here and will return again. Good value and great location. "
