  • The Deeds Carillon illuminated for the holidays. An awesome spectacle and an awesomely short-lived road side attraction! The Deeds Carillon, the largest carillon in Ohio had been transformed into the shape of a holiday tree towering 200 feet in the air and glowing with 20,000 white lights. The plan was for the Carillon Tree of Light to be turned on nightly through New Year’s Day and be accompanied by the bells playing a medley of holiday classics on the hour. I went on Sunday night and stood in wonderment of the melodic bells and the strands of light enhancing the already majestic silhouette of the carillon. Overnight, wind gusts in excess of 40 or even 50 miles per hour damaged many of the strands of light. By morning, the damage was such that the display was beyond repair and will now be taken down for the year. Quite a whirlwind tale for the inaugural lighting of the the Deeds Carillon.

Check in and check out was easy. The grounds were dirty. People hanging around and asking for change. Privacy curtains wouldn't completely closed. Room was warm even though AC was down as low as it could go. It won't stay again

Decent place to stay

It was clean but the air-conditioning unit was not working. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The surrounding area is not very attractive. But it's only a short drive to good food and city event spaces as well as the University of Dayton.

Cleanliness is key!

I was somewhat concerned when I first arrived because the outside of the hotel was not updated. However, the room was spotless and I enjoyed a good night's sleep there. The price was excellent for the quality of the room. I would definitely stay again.

Got the job done.

Desk person was great- helpful and informative. Room was very basic-relatively clean, no tissue, tub/shower diverter worked poorly but good enough to get the job done. Room was quiet all night for a good sleep.

Everything is clean and the front desk man was very friendly and efficient. Our television would not let any channels come in though! Hard to entertain kids at night with no TV. The room was fresh and inviting though!

The staff was very nice. The rooms were clean. The facility was barely working. The air conditioner was old and worked marginally. The cable TV didn't work. The area was industrial, but close to the University of Dayton by several blocks. It was probably good for the price.

There was no hot water just lukewarm. No television the rooms were clean and presentable. The first room they assigned me. The AC did not work but the TV did. They reassigned me a new room that the AC worked and the TV did not work. No phones. Well, to be fair headphones but no dialtone. It served my purpose for the weekend. And the staff was courteous.

I give this review with a grain of salt. The rooms are super cheap. In fact, we got two rooms cheaper than a single room at most hotels. We are not sure if our rooms were cleaned before we got in them. They weren't gross, just things like: hair in the shower, the TVs left on, stains in the sink, no towels, etc. As we walked to our room we noticed several other rooms with drapes drawn and left a mess. We assumed people were staying in them. However, they looked exactly the same the morning we left. It look like this was a nice hotel a few years ago and nothing is being done to maintain the property. Again super cheap, so we didn't expect much. Sadly, we were still disappointed.

Very clean room and nice employees!

I didn't know about the $50 deposit until I checked in. No telephone or trash can in the room. When I asked for a receipt at check out, there printer wasn't working. So, they were going to email it to me that afternoon. It's been two days with no email. However, the room was really nice and very clean! The new owners need to get more equipment.

The plus factors were the room itself was clean and the staff we interacted with were pleasant. As opposed to other Red Roofs we have stayed in there was no refrigerator, no microwave, and the tv worked but had no cable or local channels so was essentially useless. The heater/air conditioner was very noisy when it came on. I wish it would have stayed on to drown all the other noises out. I also didn’t like the fact someone was going around to the other rooms, presuming that some people staying there are in rehab or something similar, and doing a room check at 10pm. It was also unsettling that someone after 10 pm yelled murder and then went to talk about some things with another person outside. Didn’t feel like the best of areas and didn’t like being in the midst of whatever else was going on at the motel.

The staff was very nice, except the one checking us in on Sunday. He was ok, professional but not very customer friendly. He told us the t.v.s did not a work, no cable. We didn't have much of a choice but to stay with everything booked or more expensive than we could afford so we stayed. Our room was on the back side in which was home to a lot of people staying there who are in addiction programs which was no big deal to us, they never bothered us, we actually watched the eclipse with some of them, which we had an extra pair of glasses we gave them to share. The bathroom trash can was a 1/4 full of water, dont know why unless there was a leak from the upstairs room. We did notice that the t.v.s were working in some of the rooms of the people that live there so why didnt ours. The desk person on Monday said they were working on transferring to wifi cable or something. We just kind of rolled with it. Other than that the room, bed, beddding, towels looked brand new and was clean We enjoyed our stay just a little high for no t.v. .lobby clean, workers really nice They said they would discount me since no t.v. but I've not seen it.

PArking was fairly easy, no issues there. Area is a little sketchy. AC worked. Half of the lamps in the room did not have any lightbulbs, the mini fridge was set to freezing when I arrived, and the TV was basically unusable for the entire week long stay. Still, overall room was decent, and staff were available to help when I needed it.
