“Overall, we had a great stay. The hotel and its location were excellent, and the grounds were beautifully maintained and kept to a very high standard. The only disappointing aspect was the hotel restaurant. The food was average and didn't quite meet our expectations. If we were to return, we would probably choose to dine at restaurants nearby instead.”

“The Barnsdale hotel is in a lovely and convenient setting with ample parking. The Sydnet spa is great and the pool was wonderful for an afternoon cool down. Plus super cute Highland cows! Breakfast and dinner is wonderful in the beautiful courtyard. The Barnsdale is an old building which means the lack of air conditioning was a challenge during the heatwave. The power shower remains a mystery why anyone thought this was a good choice to install!”

“Very central, helpful owner, parking is possible very nearby, but not plentiful in a town with a street plan from the17th century. A large paid parking lot is 250 metres away. A DIY breakfast of cereal, yoghurt, and toast with many toppings, is in the fridge. Pull the cord to activate the shower.”

“Lovely place, lovely people, lovely breakfast. No air conditioning was a bad feature. The fan provided had no impact. If it had been the heatwave week it would have been unbearable.”

“The property overall was disgustingly dirty !! It needs to be completely gutted and renovated. Nail/toe nail clippings on the sofa bed. All the material on the sofa cushions was tourn and ripped. The pull out mattress also had rips in it. Carpet was thick with animal hair , bed had long clumps of human hair on. Kettle was rusty inside. Spiders everywhere, stained bath and toilet seat. Furniture in the room was falling apart. The horrific smell of animals started at reception and carried on...

“Nice hotel in quiet location with lovely outside area. One member of hotel staff unhelpful when we advised that the WiFi was unavailable. Good evening meal, breakfast offered a reasonable choice but cooked option wasn’t great. Good hotel for the money though.”

“V disappointing stay. Booked a superior room, which looked very nice on Expedia. Unfortunately our room looked nothing like the pictures online, the decor was very tired especially the bathroom which had paint flaking off the walls. Further, the room was very hot and with the need to open windows, very noisy due to the road in front of the hotel. We were offered another room which was on a higher floor but still had the same issues. Be very careful booking this hotel. Pictures are...

“There is a photo of a Jacuzzi bath on the garden rooms. I thought I would pay extra for a jacuzzi bath but I was told that was only in the bridal suite, I was very disappointed and felt this was blatantly misleading so it’s worth considering that, they should change the picture really! Also I think they need a new kettle in the room, it looked very scaly and dirty, (see photo).”

“Love the old antiqueness but spotlessness of the property alsao loved the huge wonbderful Breakfast i was full till suppertime thank youy Oakham and England for ytour kindness hope to come again i came from Canada”

“Stayed here many times but disappointed the room (carpet) didn't look clean, bathroom, this is only room with a bath and this will be the third time I've had this room and the bath taps don't work you can only use the shower. Previously I've had water in the room but not this time. Didn't look like the tea, coffee, etc. had been topped up”

“Excellent food in a lovely village next to a main road however when you shut the windows the traffic noise was vastly reduced. The close room was great value.”
