“Overnight stay in Room 117, a bit of a maze to find and a lot of stairs, so if you have any disability, don’t pick that one. Room was clean, comfortable bed, good bathroom facility and quiet. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Breakfast and Evening meal had a good selection and was nicely cooked. Made use of the Indoor Pool, which was very clean and attractive, they use a booking system so it doesn’t get overcrowded.”

“This is a beautifully refurbished property with clean rooms and a gorgeous restaurant. The food at dinner was outstanding and very reasonably priced. Our dog was given a hamper with bowls, treats and a blanket that was waiting in our room upon arrival. Very pet and child friendly with lots of room to move about as it’s set off the road. Plenty of car parking. ”

“ access to top floor was not suitable for oap, too many stairs with no help from staff with luggage. Dining area/ bar closes very early and with erratic times. Room was very good, clean and well aired. Shower was a bit weak but hot. Food was acceptable”

“Room was perfect, spacious and warm. It’s an old building so it had little steps to watch out for. So much variety for breakfast - cooked to order hot food, pastries, yoghurts etc. Some evenings it was a bit noisy outside but not for long and it is an Inn / pub. Parked 4pm-10am for free outside the cathedral. Highly recommend staying here. ”

“Great location. Everywhere is very walkable. Wide range of shops and restaurants. The Gatehouse is unique and charming. The hotel staff are very nice and accommodating. Great value for money. Beds comfortable. Room very clean. Overall a great experience and the city of Wells is a must-see”
