If you drive past the Dunes into Beverly Shores you can find more quieter areas to the Lake front. There are some small parking lots in that area (free) but they fill up fast so you have to go early in the morning if it is the Summer time. In the Fall, it is easy to access.
Great views just remember it's not dog friendly
