Right in the heart of the old city of Kotor. If you have mobility issues, try somewhere else… a very steep narrow staircase up to the room.
Staff were running a restaurant right below, and it seemed like the hotel was a second thought. It was not bad… clean enough, and comfortable.
If you are a light sleeper, this might not be your place. At about 11pm, the bar next door starts popping off, and the base is pretty loud… I could hear entire conversations from people right below my bathroom window.
Kotor is lovely… and since I don’t have trouble sleeping, I’d consider this place again, but it has some challenges for some people.
Next door is a disco that plays loud music until 01:00. Extremely difficult to sleep. I would have chosen somewhere else.
Check-in took about 15-20 minutes waiting for someone to show up.
The breakfast is good and servers are very nice.
The bed is good.
The shower needs attention. Specifically the bar holding up the shower head and the shower curtain and curtain rod.
The stairs are scary. Very narrow and minimal hand rails.
Noisy, not suitable if you're taller than 120 cm..
Location in old town is fantastic, if you like clubbing and partying. Room is noisy and party just below windows is till about 3 o'clock in the night.
We didn't bother much about noise though, we sleep easily.
To be fair I think the guesthouse has 3 proper rooms that would be okay if you're not scared of the noise and poor service, rooms 1, 2 and 3 looked decent enough. Unluckily we had room number 4.
We were mainly frustrated that the room they put us in was not really shown in the photos while booking. We're about average height, but could not make use of the bathroom without bending and twisting, it's the top room 4th floor just under the ceiling. In 80% of the bathroom and about 50% of the bedroom the ceiling was lower than my head… if you like some fire safety, don’t book this, very tight Stairway and no emergency routes. In case of emergency you're definitely stuck.
Some other setbacks:
*Breakfast was promised from 8 o’clock (sign in room even says 7:30) but wasnt served before 9, even after specific request. When the guy finally showed up first morning he prioritised putting ashtrays everywhere over us. Breakfast does not include coffee or anything to drink but has a large basket of fries we didn't want….
*Communication was hard, they let you wait long time without any explanation
*Wifi and tv didn't work.
*Funny smells in the bathroom
But hey, we’ve enjoyed Kotor anyway. Never book room 4 and try to avoid this place anyway.
The Athos Guesthouse is in the heart of Old Town Kotor. It’s perfectly situated for an easy walk to explore & see the entire area. Delicious restaurants, unique stores, great pubs, and historical churches. Highly recommend this place. I’m already planning a trip back.
We were excited to stay here because the building is beautiful and the rooms looked spacious in the photos. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing.
Check-in was fine, but the Wi-Fi did not work in our room. We reported it twice and were told they would find a solution, but nothing was ever done. The room was also extremely small with very low ceilings. I am 5'2" and 118 pounds, and even I found it cramped. My husband is close to six feet tall and had to bend down in the bathroom. The bathroom was so tiny that the toilet lid would literally rest against your back when sitting down.
One of the lights was not working, and despite asking for it to be replaced, it never was.
The biggest problem was the nightclub right next door. The old windows provided almost no sound insulation, and the noise was so loud that we could not sleep.
The customer service was also very poor. The gentleman in charge seemed uninterested in helping guests, and even checkout was handled with almost no effort.
Overall, I would not recommend this property. If you do stay here, make sure you are not given the top-floor room. The room is far too small and uncomfortable, and the nightclub noise makes it very difficult to sleep.
It is fine, there is no elevator.
Not suggested for those with big luggage.
There were ants on the floor.
Noise around the property was loud until 1 am
Breakfast ok, but no buffet
