The room was clean and extremely spacious. Our windows faced the west side or front of the hotel so it did take awhile to cool our room down. The beds were moderately comfortable. The food for our evening meal was delicious but slow service. I would recommend the experience of staying there. It’s a beautiful hotel
Enjoyed an old hotel with an interesting history. Everything was very nice. The restaurant was nice - good service and food. It thought the hotel could have been a little cleaner. Our room was nice and large. Bed was comfortable. Perhaps some shampoo and a bar of soap in the bathroom would have been nice. Overall it was an enjoyable experience. Nice coffee shop across the street. A nice low key visit.
We loved the hotel. Spacious rooms with great attention to detail of the the time. (Antiques & photos from its prime) Fabulous check-in experience.
The bad was the restaurant. Took forever to get our dinner and never saw our waitress once it came, had to find help in order to check out. Severly under staffed. That being said, the food was very goodl
At check-in we were told the restaurant closed at 9 pm but the bar stayed open later.. not true, we went in to get a drink around 9:05 and we were told they were closed. Very disappointed.
I would highly recommend the hotel if you love historical places. Use the restaurant with caution!
This is a wonderful experience, not just a hotel stay. The hotel is just wonderful and the bar/bistro downstairs is a delight. You don't need to leave the property to have a very relaxing night and be entertained. There was a very talented trio playing in the bar and the food was fabulous. It is a tapas bar, but you can easily get enough to share and fill yourselves. We will make it a must on our trip that we take so often.
We had a wonderful and restful overnight stay at this wonderful hotel. The room that we booked had issues with the AC, and we were given another room. The manager took us around and showed us one of the two rooms they had available, and right away we chose the first without looking at the other one. The room that we got was more than what we expected. It was clean, spacious, and we slept throughout the night without no issues. We did have dinner at the hotel bar and the food was good and the staff were very friendly. The environment was very relaxing. All the staff were very helpful and friendly.
My favorite place to stay when I'm in town. I travel by train, and it's literally right next to the station (but don't worry- train noise is minimal). It's a wonderful mix of vintage decor and a modern AC/heating system. And the staff is very helpful and friendly!
This historic Fred Harvey property was clean and attractive. It was renovated and reopened in 2019. Staff was welcoming, friendly, and anticipated and fulfilled our every need. We’ve stayed here several times in the past and will stay here again, highly recommend.
This is a lovely hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only negative is lack of amenities. I understand the bar is opening soon and a restaurant is to come. That will be an improvement but there needs to be at the very least a snack counter. Soda, chips, etc
Great restaurant and bar but both are closed on Monday and Tuesday.
When you book, stipulate that you do NOT want the room (104) next door to the kitchen on the far end of the hotel. An unfortunate location with a forgotten entry area and view of the trash dumpsters. Room was spacious and clean but the location was extremely disappointing and we were put there because other rooms hadnt been cleaned.
Hotel is beautiful. Historic, felt like I was in the past. They are still doing improvements. So i cant wait until its finished. Will be staying there again.
The room was clean and the staff was helpful; however, it was difficult to contact the staff when calling and trying to inform them that we would be checking in close to 8:00pm. No one answered the phone nor did they acknowledge the email we sent.
The one very disappointing aspect of our stay was that the bathroom only had one little bar of soap for handwashing and for showering. The soap dispensers in the hotel room bath and in the restaurant restroom had liquid pink soap like you would see in elementary schools. I would expect higher quality products. Otherwise, it was a pleasant stay.

The Castañeda Hotel is a very historic Harvey House built over 100 years ago. After being abandoned for years, it was meticulously renovated a few years ago. My wife and I were excited to spend a night to experience the ambiance. Yvonne at the front desk was friendly and took plenty of time to visit and make recommendations for dining etc. All the rooms are unique and differently decorated. The first room we had was not heating up so we were offered another room which was nice and warm. We were able to experience the decor and feel of two completely different rooms, which was very nice. Our mini vacation was only 24 hours but well worth the short drive from Santa Fe. We would like to return in the future.
We reserved the Comfort room based on the picture provided on the Expedia website, an upgrade from the Deluxe room. We did not get the room that was pictured, we had a room that was pictured for the deluxe room. I was told that there was only one room out of the 22 rooms at the hotel that had the space pictured on the Expedia site for a comfort room and we did not get that room. So if you are thinking of reserving the comfort upgrade, beware. Otherwise the hotel was quaint. The floorboards squeaked as did the bed. The mattress was too soft. There was no microwave, just a small freezer. The large bathroom was very nice, with soft towels and good water pressure. There is a restaurant onsite that is open for breakfast everyday, and it seemed it was open on weekend nights.
We enjoyed the historic vibe, but with modern restoration. The food (dinner and breakfast on site) was excellent and we enjoyed chatting with the chef and hearing some of the history the hotel.
As usual, my expectations were surpassed. The front desk is always friendly and helpful. The hotel is always clean and everything is in order. The staff always have good suggestions. Outstanding stay.
Excellent historic railroad hotel with delightful staff. The connoisseurs choice and worth diverting to stay in (it’s a funky town too). No food service early in the week. I think someone had been grooming a Newfoundland in the bathroom and housekeeping somehow hadn’t spotted the new carpet that had formed but small fry in the bigger picture.
