This hotel is in a very busy, commercial area, which isn't horrible but can be very noisy at times. The Underground is right around the corner which is great. There are a ton of fast food restaurants and a couple very nice restaurants. As far as the hotel itself.... The staff is extremely helpful!! I mean that, they are great. Unfortunately, the hotel is lacking in many areas. We booked online they Expedia and was sent email letting me know that I could inquire about a free upgrade.... When we arrived, I inquired, and was told I was supposed to do that they Expedia. No such a great start. We got to our room which was tiny...I mean tiny and hot. They came to look into the air conditioning and we decided to just upgrade. Back down the stairs and we did the upgrade. I asked them to make sure the air conditioner worked before we moved ourstuff, I was told they would definitely check. .

I stayed 2 nights as an Expedia VIP member having booked a 'superior' single room that was advertised as 169 sf vs the standard single room at 129 sf, if i recall correctly. A smarmy concierge checked me in since the receptionists were busy. He assigned me what surely must have been the smallest and worst room in the hotel (#438), located on the top floor and tucked off to the side on a short hall. Dreary and disappointing, it might have been otherwise tolerable had the mattress not curled up and rolled me into a ball in the middle. I hardly slept. In the morning I needed coffee. I opened the capsule coffee maker to discover a white layer of dust. Yuck. After complaining, the woman at the reception desk kindly upgraded me for the second night to a fresher double room on the 1st floor, which was clean and comfortable (even though the bed was a bit hard for my taste). Sadly, the historic allure of the hotel photos on Expedia is not to be seen by the layperson staying in steerage on the 4th floor. Don't book less than a double room here and ask for the ground or first floor if you want to enjoy your vacation.

Property rooms were small but that was to be expected due to the location. This hotel was centrally located and you get easy access to the tube station. I would 100% stay here again. There were also supermarkets and restaurants nearby. Beds were very comfortable too. Only downside was very narrow hallways and very small elevator.

The building is beautiful and staff is very friendly, the room itself was nice and spacious for one of the rooms the superiour I belive and the standard was less so. The toilet in the standard was far too close to the wall and tub and was hard to use due to that. The way to our rooms were also very confusing, we had to walk through at least 4 doors and 3 hallways to get to one room and for the other had to walk through a hallway, through a door, down a half flight of stairs, through another door and then in the room the bedroom was up another set of stairs. Aminities were nice, nespresso coffee/coffee maker, tea, hot chocolate. The mini fridge didnt get very cold and the ac didnt do much either. The standard rooms ac was not working. It is in a great location though so despite the inconveniences i would stay here again.

This hotel was a great find in terms of location. Just a short walk from the Natural History Museum, the Royal Albert Hall and the V&A. The building itself has a lot of character which we really liked. We booked a standard twin room and initially I was told we needed to pay £30 extra to have the beds made up as twins. I asked to see this policy as it wasn’t on the booking details and was soon told it didn’t apply - so double check! The room was small but comfortable and suited our needs. The room was definitely tired with carpet lifting in the doorway, a carpet stain by the desk, and generally a bit dusty but nothing we felt we needed to make a fuss about. Reception staff were very helpful and friendly. We didn’t pay extra for breakfast as so many nice places nearby to grab something at a cheaper price. Overall a great stay, just some minor niggles that the hotel could do with improving.

Hospitality was very good but we were disappointed to find that a service charge was added to all purchases at the bar that we were not told about. We only realised this when reviewing the receipt. Service charges should be at the customers discretion. There was also a £50 deposit that was asked for on arrival but not clearly explained!! This was taken on my bank card (which worried me for the duration of my stay, as I had paid up front and never use room service or charge to my room) and when I asked for the payment to be reversed, as I checked out, and a receipt for the negative payment I was told this was not possible. I was very disappointed that we are not trusted. Now if I had been asked for a credit to authorise any charges, If added, this would have been fine but to take a £50 deposit, with no explanation, is not on. Very disappointed. Spoilt my stay. 😟

Summary: Great hotel location. Room (deluxe) mediocre and needs improving. Hotel is in an excellent location, just a couple of minutes walk from Gloucester Road Station which is on three different tube lines. Also down the road from the NHM, Science Museum and V&A, with Royal Albert not far either. On arrival, the hotel entrance looked smart and we were greetly warmly with a goodie bag which was nice. Then asked for £50 deposit, which I was surprised at but understandable (believe in the T&C's anyway). The room however was a let down. Considering this was 'deluxe', I couldn't find much to separate it from more basic stays elsewhere. Extra disappointing as this stay was for a special occasion. Furnishings and carpet felt tired and the view was a frosted window onto the back, so little natural light... would have hoped all deluxe rooms were given street view - this was the biggest disappointment. In addition to this, the 'small flush' of the toilet didn't work at all and the aircon was set to 34oC but blowing cool. Neither were big enough issues to move room, however in hindsight perhaps we should have. The coffee machine had no instructions and pods unlabelled, so non idea what they were. Positives: Plenty of floor space, everywhere was clean, bed was comfy and shower was big and warm, towels ready on a warm towel rail. Room provided with iron and ironing board, and hairdryer - all useful.

I was greeted by Dhavani who was kind, accommodating and went out of her way to help me with a genuine warm smile and personality. The staff all seem to be encouraged to be themselves in a positive way, so it’s never a cookie-cutter experience here. It’s part of the reason I’m alway happy to come back. The hotel is a little older, so there is a slight shabby-chic feel, but it’s perfectly lovely to stay in. The bed and sheets are very comfy, and the rooms are warm and welcoming. Will happily stay again.

This is a great location with the underground just across the street. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast offered has extensive choices and is very good.

I’ve stayed at this hotel a number of times and have enjoyed each visit. All members of staff are welcoming, polite and attentive.

This location does not have car service or a shuttle as shown on the Expedia profile. They simply will call you a taxi. There is one very tiny lift within the building. The building has steps to climb with no ramp for those with mobility issues. The location is nice. It is near restaurants, tube stations, and some shopping.
