Northwest Michigan, Michigan hotel rooms at the Independent

"Kind of ridiculous that even though my room was ready and I was only 1 hour early you wanted to charge an early arrival fee of $40 on a $400 room . When I refused to pay it , just out of principle, I was told we would need to go find a place to change for golf - so we had to change in our car. Not even the Ritz Carlton charges an early check in , ESPECIALLY WHEN THE ROOM WAS READY ! I have been coming here for years but that little stupid unnecessary fee would make me consider not . Again...

"The clerk at the front desk was WONDERFUL! She was sweet and cordial and remembered us and our plans for a Comic-Con. She checked on our stay and asked about our activities. She was a pleasure."

"So most everything was really good except the hot water in the shower was non existent. there was hot hot water at the sink so very odd."

"The inside is updated and nice, as is the outside of the building. The wood door really should be replaced as it lacks security and privacy. The shade covering the door window is ripped and no longer fits so we hung toilet paper on the sides for more privacy. The unit is decorated nicely; maybe an area rug would give it more of a homey/welcoming feeling. Price was excellent. "
