"This hotel is older, but undervalued. We stayed between the Ohana (front) and Aloha (middle) towers on the north side.
Pros:
-Right on the beach, although you have to walk to the northern side to get to the beach because of erosion protection. There is a bathroom and water shower there. We saw monk seals & plenty of turtle right there. Rent gear there & you're good
-Beach is shorter, but that limits people who come so relatively unpopulated
-Has kitchenette with a dishwasher that's stocked with plates etc.
-THE BEST RAINWATER SHOWER head I've ever had (on the 12th floor). I almost don't want to mention it because it's probably illegal
-Free washer-dryer on each floor
-Free putt putt, ping pong activities
-Free underground parking
-Good ocean views from all sides unless you're at the back of the Lokahi tower but still nice mountain view
-Clean w/nice staff
-Survived a 6.0 quake on the big Island
Cons:
-Dated in style (but maintained)
-If you're on the north side, your balcony will be over the cooling tower which is loud
-Balconies between towers are shallow but long. Aloha (larger) or Lokahi (pyramid) towers are nicer
-Fewer double bed options, mostly kings
OK:
-Pool is nice, but not great. It has a slide good for kids
-Breakfast is better than average, but usually the same
-I think it was an Embassy Suites and you can tell from the atriums with a Caribbean color scheme. You could add decorations or plants in them and it would liven them up."
