Rosario Chapel Tours

Rosario Chapel showing interior views, heritage elements and a church or cathedral
Marvel at the sculptures, golden décor and acclaimed paintings that decorate the entirety of this resplendent chapel sometimes called the Golden House.

Rosario Chapel is an opulent sanctuary on the southern side of the altar of the Templo de Santo Domingo church. The church and chapel are known for their Baroque architecture and gold-leaf interior, hidden behind a fairly typical gray façade. Enter the chapel, considered the highlight of the ornate church, for its ecclesiastical works of art.

Walk around the spectacular chapel and be hypnotized by the sheer opulence of the place. It is almost entirely embellished in gold-leaf décor, with sculptures and masterful paintings in every corner. Stay for Mass service for a glimpse into the ongoing religious activity here.

Admire the statue of the Virgin of the Rosary, which is the centerpiece of the chapel. It is surrounded on all sides by many angels, saints and martyrs.

Gaze up at the top part of the walls for the six large canvases by painter José Rodríguez Carnero. The chapel is so large and fascinating that it is often considered a church within a church, with some labelling it as the Eighth Wonder of the World.

Explore the rest of the Santo Domingo church for its airy nave and Baroque features. Capture photos of the gray-and-red façade that dominates a pleasant plaza. Gaze up at the tall bell tower.

Note that the chapel was constructed in the 17th century, a late addition to the church built a century earlier. The complex has a long history entwined with St. Dominic, the founder of the Dominican Order.

The chapel opens daily from morning until midday and from late afternoon until early evening.
