10 minutes walk from pier 39 and super easy to get around. Pretty clean and safe. Nice place if you just need to sleep and shower and want to be out and about. (We did get a private bathroom)
LOVE this place, and will stay here every time I'm in town if my room (Queen with private bathroom) is available! Great location, safe, super clean, quirky & cozy vibes, and super affordable - best deal in town! 10 outta 10, wouldn't change a thing!
Stayed at one of the newer and cleaner queen rooms w/ private restroom (which looks incredible). Amenities are bare bones (water/coffee machines at lobby) but the biggest plus is the quiet location.
Walking to the North Beach strip does get crowded but heading back here somehow cuts all the noise.
The location was good and in a quiet neighborhood. The facilities were clean, and although I shared a bathroom, there never was a wait.

Unfortunately the old charm and historic appeal of this beautiful hotel and building are being ripped out and “updated”. Though I did mostly enjoy my stay, and the staff were exceptional; I was highly let down my the loss of character and poorly executed renovations that had been done to the rooms.
-Great location, awesome service, comfortable bed, descent shower.
-EXTREMELY small room!!!!! Smallest hotel room I’ve ever been in
The San Remo is a cute vintage style hotel that feels like a cross between a boutique hotel and a hostel! The staff was incredibly helpful offering extra blanket and local recommendations. The fresh coffee machine in the lobby is free and makes a wonderful latte or hot chocolate. It is also walking distance to a full day of San Fransisco fun at the piers, shops, and restaurants!

August 2026 - construction noise on the other side of a shared wall was pretty loud from 8am. Otherwise a good place to stay, room tidy and location good.
Cute but very small ... a bunk bed, bathroom& sink ... that's all! There was no dresser, no table, no ledge no chair, we had to put stuff in the sink to keep it off the floor. A bit loud in the morning due to construction taking place in our room was written near the coffee center. So it was loud as people were heating up their breakfasts and making their coffee. If you are in the far end of hall you probably wouldn't have heard any of that. Although the review sounds negative, it wasn't, it was very nice place. The people were friendly and it was really central to everything that we wanted to do period
What can I say? the place is great. Love the old fashion rooms. The bathrooms and showers are nice. They have shampoo, conditioner, body wash, cotton rounds and q-tips. Lots of books in the hallways to read. Coffee, a microwave, and water. The neighborhood is awesome, not to far from Fisherman's Wharf. There's an Italian restaurant downstairs, a Trader Joe's, taco joint and Grocery Outlet down the way.
Clean Save money and stay here. You can walk everywhere. Fior d ITALIA the restaurant here is excellent. Also try Sotto Mare in North Beach. I have stayed here multiple times. Will go back again. Fair warning. Built in 1906, no elevator. If you are able to climb 17 stairs it’s so worth it! Newly remodeled rooms. They do have some rooms with private bathrooms. Brand new!! Room 2 has a great view of the street below. Open the window at night and enjoy!
The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean. The room was exceptionally small with very little space to shelf items (ie toothbrush, makeup, hair accessories) and little space to open up luggage other than the bed. Prior to booking, a description of the room, including square footage (maybe a total of 100SF including the bathroom) would have been nice. Also it would have been nice to know before booking that there is no elevator.
Absolutely amazing hotel it is all about location, location location! It is not your typical hotel with your typical hotel amenities as our room was a queen size bed and a bathroom and that was it. But that is exactly what we needed and exactly what we signed up for. All the marketing and online images available are exactly as advertised. The hotel has a very eclectic style that is unique and we enjoyed it immensely. The staff at the front desk was absolutely amazing and very helpful with navigating aspects of the city and offering to help with baggage as the hotel is located on the second floor. We absolutely recommend this as a stay if you’re in San Francisco.
We had a wonderful stay! Staff was more than accommodating. The rooms were clean however we did not have a refrigerator in our room or a coffee maker, but it was very friendly and inviting and
the courtyard was great and the continental breakfast was wonderful!
If I find myself back in San Francisco I will definitely stay again
