Good for the price:) the staff was very friendly and quick to help even though we checked in late. It was clean and good for a quick stop. It’s a motel with not the best beds but I don’t regret staying there, I didn’t ever feel unsafe. It was quiet and the ac works.

You get what you pay for

It is a motel. It could stand to be deep cleaned and updated but from the looks of the outside they're getting there. The workers are extremely friendly and I never once felt unsafe. I would stay here again if ever I needed to.

Over many years, I have stayed in many hotels and houses. I own rental homes on the island of Kauai for the past 36 years. Our stay at the Western States inn was wonderful, the room was very clean with all items and facilities in good working order upon arrival and throughout our stay to departure. It was hot during our time in San Miguel, night and day, the air conditioning was great and ran well. The Manager, Prietes, was very attentive and pleasant, he checked in with us daily to make sure our stay was going well and if we had a comfortable room. He gave us great advice on where to go in the area for our needs, as well as, where to dine, his recommendations were spot on, he made our trip to San Miguel and choosing to stay at the Western States Inn not just a wonderful choice but an Outstanding memorable one. It is clearly an older property. But the rooms were clean, the beds were very comfortable, even though it is right off 101 it was quiet, the bathrooms are stocked with very nice towels, unlike what you usually find in less expensive motels. The showers were warm and had good water flow but could use an upgrade (but they were clean). I stayed for three mights while on a hunting trip and will stay there again. San Miguel is pretty much a wide spot on highway 101 just north of Paso Robles. Our double room was well under $100/night. Since we were out all day the lack of amenities like a pool or breakfast.

It's a dump. Don't believe the reviews. Overpriced, dirty,noisy, old. Wouldn't stay again even though its the only place in town. 93° and the ice machine doesn't work. Very thin walls.

First off, check-in was weird. The owner told us a power outage a few days ago wiped out his key card machine, so he couldn't give us keys because replacement was still on order, that we'd have to just find him and he'd let us in to our room. Don't really understand how temporarily losing power destroys a machine like that, I hope its legitimately short term but just started off the experience creepy wondering if he's one of those nosy micromanaging owners who wants to spy on everyone etc. The room was ok I guess. The luggage rack was falling apart - just throw it out at that point and either replace it or just don't offer one, its better than having a broken useless item calling attention to itself. The toilet often didn't want to drain when flushed, and the shower had lots of standing water when showering, they really need to flush their pipes. The AC smelled kinda funny, so I tried opening the bathroom window but then we had to deal with the loud cars driving past since its right next to highway 101.
