The 7.3 mile hike was awesome! I'd recommend starting at South Falls and going around (Canyon Trail to Rim Trail). So many waterfalls. The trail was pretty easy. One portion of stairs. I'd do it again.

Silverton is north of Silver Fallls State Park. It is the most civilized accommodations available.
