"The hotel was overall clean. The room itself was excellent. The hallways were dated and gave off a musty, wet smell, but it was not present in the lobby area. One of the elevators was out and on the day we left, the other ONE working elevator was hit or miss. We stayed on the 4th floor so walking the steps (up and down) with luggage was not the most pleasant. Also, the ice machine on the 4th floor was broken, the 3rd floor was working but never had ice, so that caused for multiple trips (on the stairs) to the fifth floor. I'd be willing to stay here again if all other hotels were booked, but if another option was available at or near the same cost, I would likely choose another hotel. "

"The hotel is dated and sorely needs to be renovated. In our room, the bathroom floor tiles were broken and completely loose from the floor. This is a safety hazard, on top of looking terrible and being impossible to clean. The hotel carpets were brown, but still managed to look dirty. We went to look at the pool, and it looked like scum was floating on top, and there was hair floating in the hot tub. In the fitness room, the majority of the machines were out of order. Outside the hotel were lots of cigarette butts that had not been cleaned up, and trash in the lobby was not removed promptly. The only thing positive I can say is that the bed was comfortable. "

"**The Jefferson Hotel, Richmond, VA** Opened in 1895, The Jefferson is one of those rare hotels that earns its reputation without breaking a sweat — the soaring rotunda, stained glass skylights, and marble columns make an immediate impression, and the warm, unhurried service keeps it from feeling like a museum piece. Rooms are elegant and genuinely comfortable, Lemaire is one of the better restaurants in the city, and the Rotunda Bar is a perfect excuse to linger. It's not a budget stay, but for a special occasion or simply a night of doing Richmond right, there's nothing else quite like it."
