The Androy Hotel - Superior Duluth
8/10 Good
"This was a charming hotel. The location was a little interesting, and there is no back door clearly labeled that is adjacent to the parking lot (which is in the back), so we had to walk around the block to get there. It was not bad because my husband was with me, but I would have been nervous if I had been alone. There IS a door straight to the parking lot in the back--but you just can't tell what it is or where it goes until you're inside the hotel. The hotel was clean and nice, and full of character, with real keys for the doors. It was also quiet on a Friday night, which we appreciated. The downsides: no breakfast (though they served coffee and donuts, which was nice!). The toilet was very loud (it's a commercial toilet, so think Walmart toilet when flushing). Also, the room temperature was not really controllable, except that you could turn the air conditioner on or off, up or down, but our room was pretty chilly. I would have turned some heat on, but the only option was a space heater in the closet, so I just didn't bother. Also, the beds are doubles--not queens, so you'll be cozy, but they were comfortable and I did sleep really well."
"All of the staff were super friendly and helpful, and it was really cool to be able to see when the next expected ship was coming through. The breakfast was really good, and the location is amazing."
"The room was nice, the view better than you could get from something in Duluth. Everything was fine except the HVAC system was so loud I doubt I would have slept much if I weren't exhausted from hiking and biking. It ran even when I tried to turn it off, but not in an even, white noise kind of way. This was in Suite 3 in the Trophy Lodge. Other lodging options may be different."
"The breakfast was pretty lacking compared with other hotels that offer breakfast.
Room was clean. Bed was comfortable. Nice to have a refrigerator and microwave.
Strangely, the bathroom door swings out instead of in.
Parking lot is in bad shape."
