Stone Town's labyrinthine alleys reveal ancient carved doorways, spice markets, and the haunting history of the former slave market. Climb the House of Wonders for harbor views, then catch a sunset dhow cruise where sailors serve fresh seafood dinners.
If you're the type of traveler who eats at McDonald's in other country's, then this property is probably not for you, but if you want to immerse in the local culture, its fantastic. Make sure you specify a bathroom in your room, unless you're ok with sharing, and make sure you arrange for a pickup at the airport for transportation to the hotel. The street is about 5 feet wide, and the van has to park a few blocks away. The area adjacent to the hotel is a lot like Marrakech, Morrocco with...

Very unique and one of a kind hotel in the middle of stone town. Surely you can settle for comfort and choose Hyatt but you can do that anywhere in the world. Emerson Spice is a truly exceptional hotel with a very attentive staff. You will be wowed!

Stayed here for one week and enjoyed it. The hotel is on a fairly busy beach in Stone Town. Breakfast was excellent, dinners were sometimes good and sometimes not but the salad bar was great. It is safe to walk around Stone Town with plenty of restaurants, souvenir shops, fruits and spices for sale. There is a nice ice cream store right across from the hotel and although most places take US$ there is a money exchange very close by (on the other side of the building tunnel with good rates). The service at the Neela was unparalleled. The staff were unfailingly pleasant and helpful, but never fawning or in the way.
Make sure to visit not only their downstairs cafe, but also their rooftop restaurant.
Highly recommend.

We loved our stay at Kholle House in Stonetown. The hotel was Beautiful and the perfect escape to after a long day exploring. All The staff was fantastic in helping us get the arrangements prior to arriving and then helping us with a couple of the activities we wanted to do. We highly recommend.

I celebrated my honeymoon on June 8th at Lux and was thoroughly impressed with the experience. In fact, I plan to return next year at the same time. I hope to see Grace, who works at the reception. She truly deserves to be a manager. Lux, I am coming back and would love to stay in the same room, number 65. Thank you for making my honeymoon a magical experience for my wife and me.

Very friendly staff settled in a beautiful surrounding. Great pool, and everything is so clean. We felt really looked after.
How ever, it said in various sites that there is a beach here, it is, maybe 25 sq meter in total, but with no acces to the sea, there is a very large ref.

Deluxe Apartment Sea Facing- 10/10. Clean. Great size. Quiet. Excellent view. First floor, so avoided noisy neighbours above us. Decent, but small safe. A/C worked well.
Bathroom - 10/10. Clean. Lovely shower.
Bed - 10/10. Very large. Very comfy. Mozzy nets and turn down service at night.
WiFi - 10/10. Very good, considering where we were. Worked fine down by the pool and even worked by the beach!
Pool - 10/10. Good size. Nice and clean laid out pool area, with plenty of loungers and shade....

When you book a hotel you always read reviews with a pinch of salt. This hotel has fantastic reviews and with good reason. Everything from the welcome to our departure was absolutely first class without exception. A few members of staff deserve a special mention - Bernard, Mtoto, Nema and Baracka all helped make our stay extra special. The staff in general are exceptional including the kitchen staff who turn out superb food time after time and catered to my wife’s vegetarian requirements...

Staff was undoubtedly the most considerate, best trained, thoughtful and improvisational of anywhere I have ever stayed, bar none and that includes lots of Shangri-Las, Peninsulas, Four Seasons, Ritzes and so on. It's a small mostly tourist hotel but I had friendly conversations -- and unusually creative, thoughtful and staff-initiated contacts on items from meals to hallway gadgets to knowing how to light a photo of me in the dining room to walking and shopping. Great location-within walking distance of Darjani Market and Freddie Mercury’s house. The staff was attentive and helpful. The room I stayed in was huge and clean. It was 3 flights up but they help you with your luggage.
They offer spa services which is done in a hotel suite. The massage I had was terrific.
My only regret is I didn’t have more time there.

The rooms are great; spacious, clean and well-stocked. Free wireless also made things nice. Our room was on the pool side and the view was still great. If you're a fan of Zanzibari doors, you'll enjoy this place. Breakfast is on the front balcony with a wonderful view overlooking the ocean.
The hotel staff is friendly and are available 24 hours. Our flight in was delayed and we arrived later in the evening, but everything was ready to go when we got there; the bellhops were even on-hand to...

TOA is a new facility in the as-yet unspoiled Pongwe Beach area. The facility itself is beautiful, and kept immaculately clean. The staff are unfailingly kind, helpful and efficient, and everyone greets you with a smile and warmth. The food is delicious and beautifully prepared, and the grounds and amenities are spotless and carefully maintained. The most memorable part of the stay is the staff; I cannot say enough about how kind and generous they are. I highly recommend a stay at TOA.

We absolutely loved everything about the Tembo Hotel! Everything was great-from a speedy check-in and check-out to the incredible staff that made sure we were always well taken care of at all times. This is a beautiful property with much charm-take the time to explore the different floors and rooftop views! I also can't say enough about the amazing breakfast that's included.
